The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

What are your dream leopards?

Mine are;
Choati (fun fact about me, my favourite colour is orange :))
Kuiteri (Females are gorgeous but the males just lose it for me unfortunately)
Negrosensis (nothing beats that galaxy look on the females and the teal the males gain)

I just wanted to treat myself lol. Just 1 treat. Back to searching and waiting.
You’ll find one eventually! Hey, why not go for a Paracheilinus bellae? ;)

Cuz I really need to stick to my list lol. Thx for the recommendation though and hopefully I can have a male in a future tank.

I’d love one if it wasn’t for their price tag, paracheilinus is a genus I’ll spend more money on if they come in as females and many of the rarer wrasses don’t come in as females or aren’t even that species.
Here’s just a resting male photo from the book.

@homer1475 you wanted to get that Choati remember? WWC has them starting at $299 and quarantined! And this is from the West Coast source lucky for you: shipping will be available until Jan 3rd!

When was that book published?

It must be over 10 years now, I think it was published in 2008, maybe just a bit earlier (The Mutant Fairy Wrasse was still in the Conniella genus which I don’t believe exists anymore as the Mutant Fairy was moved to Cirrhilabrus in 2016).

Lovely wrasses everyone! I'm just trying to find the final fish for my planned wrasse gang in my new tank, and I was looking at C. aurantidorsalis, C. solarensis and C. rubripinnis. Does anyone have experience with any of these species? The tank is 90x50x55cm, and I've heard both that the aurantidorsalis and solarensis get too big, and also that one would be fine. I do have a lot of flow and an open aquascape, if that makes a difference. It would be going with the following group that I've already decided on.

1x Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
1x Lubbock’s Wrasse
1x Yellow Halichoeres Wrasse
1x Linespot Flasher Wrasse
1x Royal Flasher Wrasse

Thanks!

Hi it’s me again lol. The solarensis or the aurantridorsalis are good as long as there isn’t much bickering in the wrasse gang. I’m glad you added a Halichoeres as it eats pests and adds some color. When you mean Yellow Halichoeres there are two main options the Silver Belly and the Yellow Coris. Which one is it you have in mind? Either can work. For your sized tank I would cap it at 10 fish so the 5 wrasses you have there plus your two clowns blenny and gramma will work. If you want to add the rubripinnis I think it would be fine again as long as everything is calm most of the time.

Are those guts drop shippers? Not sure I'd want to risk an expensive wrasse with them. Couldn't find any info if they condition the fish before shipping again.

Dang, these are some good photos of atavai, I wish I could find a female (both sexes have beautiful colours but the females are nicer).

Probably maybe idk I’ve never bought from their online fish store. All fish are QT for 2 weeks before put on the site. Now the only place I trust shipping leopard wrasse with would be Elliot’s marinecollectors. I think BRS buys from him as well. They are all preconditioned quarantined and feeding frozen and pellets.

Thanks for sharing this, just ordered myself a copy
It’s definitely one of the best books I have currently, it really helps with IDs and in the Paracheilinus section it shows a couple of the Hybrids that can occur.

While appreciate the heads up, I don't think I'll be getting this guy shipped. I'll let my LFS order one, and hold him for a few weeks. He'll "QT" it to a degree, and get it eating. Then I'll have a better chance with it.

I know my leopards, and am confident in my ability to keep it alive. I am just leery of the price tag.
