It’s a bells flasher. Can’t say how he looks under blues but think he will be vibrant. Only had him couple days and he stressed from shipping qt tanks and being bullied. He does vary color from more red and purple and dorsal turns iridescent blue to what is in the picture. What is this!? Stunning colors! Is it really vibrant under blues?
Upgrade one size bigger. You will thank me down the road. To many wrasse not too. This thread is going to cause me to go broke. Already looking to upgrade again just to make a wrasse tank
4 ft or 6?Upgrade one size bigger. You will thank me down the road. To many wrasse not too.
If you can 6’! A 4’ tank can house a lot of wrasse also. It comes down to waste removal and proper homes for fairy flashers. I upgrade from 4’ to 6’ because of wrasse. Just saying lol4 ft or 6?
Ooooohhhhh!!!! I'll photograph mine tomorrow!!!Time for the glamour shots!![]()

This is why we decided to do the 6' 180 gallon instead of the 5' 100 gallon for our upgrade in the next couple months. Also lets me upgrade my fish only wrasses to an 8' tank instead of the 6' 180 gallon. Just need to find a good deal on a used 8' acrylic tank now.If you can 6’! Good move. I was going to do 8’ but I’m the latest reefer and decided 6’. Mine is 30” tall though. Went tall because my Hemi was a big boy and flashers like the height. Tank is was still smallish for him. This is why we decided to do the 6' 180 gallon instead of the 5' 100 gallon for our upgrade in the next couple months. These are what I'm currently thinking for the 180. Anything with an asterisk is already in the 75 gallon or in quarantine.Good move. I was going to do 8’ but I’m the latest reefer and decided 6’. That’s an incredible list. I would love to see it!!These are what I'm currently thinking for the 180. Anything with an asterisk is already in the 75 gallon or in quarantine.
1 Pintail Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus isosceles)*
1 Brunneus Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus brunneus)*
1 Labout's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus laboutei)*
1 Pink Headed Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus chaliasi)*
1 Cebu Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lubbocki)
1 Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis)
1 Lineatus Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lineatus)
1 Cebu Pylei Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus briangreenei)
1 Blue Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus cyaneus)
1 Royal Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus angulatus)
1 Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri)
1 Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis)*
1 Timor Wrasse (Halichoeres timorensis)*
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)
1 Black Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon negrosensis)
1 Red and Blue Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon marisrubri)*
1 Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris)
2 Splendid Pencil Wrasse (Pseudojuloides splendens)**
1 Royal Pencil Wrasse (Pseudojuloides severnsi)
1 Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella nigropinnata)*
I'm also considering:
1 Peppermint Hogfish (Bodianus masudai)
1 Yellow Candy Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus)
1 Choats's Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon choati) - gotta convince the wife into this one. A LFS of mine has a gorgeous one for $350 that's been there almost a year.
1 Cleaner Wrasse, though I want a different species than L. dimidiatus. Leaning towards either Labroides bicolor or Labroides pectoralis.
When you said upgrade I got excited as you really pack them in. Great list and have some that shouldn’t be together but you’ll pull it off. These are what I'm currently thinking for the 180. Anything with an asterisk is already in the 75 gallon or in quarantine.

I'll definitely post pics once it's running. That’s an incredible list. I would love to see it!!
Only ones that concern me are the secretive wrasse (Pseudocheilinus evanidus) who I somehow forgot to add to that list, and the Cebu Pylei Fairy (C. briangreenei). Hopefully they behave, but I can always trap them out and throw them in another system. Heck, I've been known to tear entire rockscapes apart if needed to catch a problem fish, and hey, maybe I'll actually see my yellow brotulid pair :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:When you said upgrade I got excited as you really pack them in. Great list and have some that shouldn’t be together but you’ll pull it off.
Hey, there are 3 on that list, and possibly a 4th if I can talk my wife into the choati.Pylei was the one that caught my eye. Me and fairy’s don’t get along all that good. They can be emotional little jerks
My biggest concern of the lack of leopards lol
Was going to help em out but looks like you’ve got it covered!;)I would love to reorganize my tank. Got too many fish that aren’t wrasse before I realized wrasse were the best.
Add something like:
Frostbite & domino clownfish, Amphiprion ocellarisBenggai cardinalfish, Pterapogon kauderni- Red firefish, Nemateleotris magnifica
- Common foxface, Siganus vulpinus
Royal gramma, Gramma loreto- Midas blenny, Ecsenius midas
- 2 Mandarins, Synchiropus splendidus
- (one eyed) Orange spot goby, Amblyeleotris guttata
- Red Sea leopard wrasse, Macropharyngodon marisrubri
- Radiant wrasse, Halichoeres iridis
- Blue streak cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus
- Pink streaked wrasse, Pseudocheilinops ataenia
- Lunate fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus lunatus
- Exquisite fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus exquisitus
- Blue-barred ribbon goby, Oxymetopon cyanoctenosum
- Timor wrasse, Halichoeres timorensis
Of course if possible I'd add Macropharyngodon cyanoguttatus and Anampses Chrysocephalus instead but...
- Cirrhilabrus rubeus/naokaoe
- Crrhilabrus Rhomboidalis
- Macropharyngodon vivienae
- Paracheilinus cyaneus
- Paracheilinus carpentari
- Anampses cearulepunctatus
You're giving me ideas for my 6' to go along with the Gaimard, the Melanarus, and the future Dragon.I'll definitely post pics once it's running.
For the 8' fowlr, this is what I'm thinking. Again, fish with an asterisk are already in the holding tank.
1 Broomtail Wrasse (Cheilinus lunulatus)*
1 Axilspot Hogfish (Bodianus axillaris)*
1 Spanish Hogfish (Bodianus rufus)*
1 Slippery Dick Wrasse (Halichoeres bivittatus)*
1 Melanurus Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus)
1 Lightning Wrasse (Halichoeres cyanocephalus)
1 Candy Cane Wrasse (Hologymnosus rhodonotus)
1 Red Coris Wrasse (Coris gaimardi)
1 Anchor Tuskfish (Choerodon anchorago)
1 Bird Wrasse (Gomphosus varius)
1 Hardwick's Wrasse (Thalassoma hardwicke)
1 Red Sea Cleaner Wrasse (Larabicus quadrilineatus)
This will be my 180 gallon (6'x2'x2' with 75 gallon sump):I would love to reorganize my tank. Got too many fish that aren’t wrasse before I realized wrasse were the best.
