Saw your thread, did you figure out what caused the temp spike?

I think I must have pulled the temperature monitor out accidentally while changing out the plumbing. I’m not totally sure but I think I may remember seeing it out of the water and pushing it back in the next day without even thinking about it. Thus the thermometer suddenly reading 87 because the heater was blasting all night.

Should have just stuck with an eheim but now I think I should invest in a second monitor like an APEX. Scary how such a simple mistake could almost be so costly.

You use a inkbird, rancho or a aqualogic?

Hell the apex isnt fool proof either, it does the job as well as the dumb human (us) can program it to.

Question for the gurus, I have this H. argus pictured in my 50g cube, its fat, large and somewhat aggressive. I love it due to the pest patrol that it does but I'm considering adding it to my 120g as he's enormous for the cube now. Current 120g inhabitants wrass wise are a melnaurus, coris gaimard and h. Claudia.

You think its going to be a battle or will it come in without a issue.

I’d say he could get along with the others depending on how big the gaimard and melanurus are.

The gaimard is prolly 1/4 shorter in length and the melanurus may be toe to toe in length. The argus is thick, as those bristleworms dont survive if they come out and eats like a pig.

Downside is if I move him instead of LFS return, I still need a wrasse for pest control, just one NOT so big.

I would set your heater to 2 degrees above ideal and then set apex to ideal temp. I also put a line in the apex code to shut off heater if temp drops below 65 degrees. With two redundant heaters you will never see that temp. Usually means a failed temp probe and you’ll cook your tank without that fail safe line.

I have two M. bipartitis arriving in a couple of weeks, two different shipping conditions (one sand, one black bag). If both of them survive, is it OK to put them both in the same landing-pad/acclimation tank? Or do they need to be in separate tanks?

For Halichoeres, is shipment with sand also preferable?

Should be fine together assuming both are female. It could help halichoeres too for the same reason but they're less likely to need it.

Can't wait to start seeing my Radiant...

I got lucky with mine, he was out and swimming around first day I put him into the dt. My other halichoeres, well that’s another story. Hid for 6 weeks straight, finally came out and it looked like a fish zombie but I was happy and ready to get him fat again but the next day my cleaner shrimp were eating it

I noticed that LA lists radiants as “Expert Only”. I’m not sure why or if it’s even true that they ship so much worse than other halichoeres. I was lucky to see mine eat at an LFS and see it was healthy. Good luck in yours!

Mine shipped good, same with my yellow coris. Both shipped a lot better then my flashers

Mine shipped very well, place into DT, Seen it came out very early in morning way before lights come on. Was hoping it was finally adjusting. but no when back into hiding,,,

I know a few people who’ve shipped radiant have had to go through 3-4 specimens before getting one that thrives.
And in a fish shop, it’s a pain to get them healthy from shipping stress as well. The group my iridis came in with as a juvenile wound up almost all dead with the one that remained alive and thrived (Safe to say that girl was picked up that same day as I had watched them the whole week). And that was a group of I think 6-7 juveniles.
