The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

My broken possum wrasse continues to be defective. He’s currently out here scrapping with my tomini tang that is minding its own business, following him around the tank. I’ve never had a possum act anything like this before, it’s entertaining, and he only tries to scrap with my tomini.

I do not understand him or his motives.

That photo makes it look like that is a massive possum :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Something happened at the lab that turned him into a non conspicuous super possum wrasse fish

Yeah it does hahah. Must’ve been a weird angle on the photo, or maybe he was juiced up from some mysis shrimp. Here’s one I posted a couple weeks ago where he was biting the tomini, the tang isn’t huge, but is definitely a lot larger :D

Plan for next Thurs (in one week):

1. Set up Evo 13.5g tank with 2" new Caribsea fiji pink sand. Low traffic area. 1/4" screen top lid.

2. Add 1.5yr seeded live rock rubble/matrix to AIO chamber for filtration

3. Add medium sized rocks seeded from my 40g to Evo display for more natural look, comfort and intellectual stimulation (gawd, feels like I'm doing primate research!). Maybe add some macros.

4. Call Dr. Reef to get specific shipping salinity. Match salinity in Evo. Recheck salinity in shipping bags. Adjust Evo.

5. Medium-low flow.

6. Check wrasses upon arrival, drain shipping water, then into Evo.

7. Bought BRS brine shrimp hatchery and eggs. Figured they might like them and get them out of sand and eating sooner. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

8. Set light schedule of Noop Mini on Evo to same as Noops on 40g at lower intensity to get them on daytime schedule.

9. Raise salinity 0.002 per day till matching 40g, wait for happy wrasses to transfer to acclimation box in 40g.

10. Light candles and make sacrificial offering (admin, probably) to Neptune.

Am I missing anything to give these wrasses a good shot at survival?

The general rule is, you have to sacrifice one wrasse for another. LOL

Well its time for another very controversial ranking!! This time the flashers, Paracheilinus!
Obviously the best are at the top. I tried to find the best picture for each. Those top 4 are so crazy beautiful and I'd say that almost all are very pretty (one isn't).

I’ve unfortunately lost my Indo Lubbocki as he was old (He was a fairly old male when I got him so 3 years isnt too bad) so maybe a Paracheilinus species is in my future again. Im praying that Walton is available to the hobby, that guy is stunning!

Thats a shame but sounds like a good lifespan. I may do the same if I see a filementosus! I tried not to look at prices to influence my list but dang is that cheap for a very pretty fish.

I want to point out that me and @JoJosReef were the only ones writing things correctly as we wrote the names lowercase….unlike you @i cant think you wrote them with capital :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Chequerboard wrasse - would you have one in your tank?
I did the ... that looks nice and purchased one.
It is in QT and the moment... been there two weeks..

From what i have read... think it is going back to the shop.

Anyone have positive stories of this fish?

I have....

2 x Leopards
1 x 6 line
1 x Ruby head

These are getting on fine...
Oh an a cleaner shrimp and I want coral bandit... and have heaps of snails.

Reasons not to have...

They get huge... sleep in the sand which means mess, moving stuff eating everything like pods.. aggression, bully everything.

My Tank is 200G

I have 4 x tangs, 2 clowns, 3 mandarins, and some other fish...
