The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

A lot of fin displaying has been going on and the finifenmaa had a stunning flashing period. If you have owned this fish or seen it display you’ll see how it resembles the Lanceolatus and others in the complex!

Im still not convinced she’s a mccoskeri but she’s still stunning and usually my flashers hide for a few days before making a big entrance. I guess females are the best to go for as they aren’t so skittish compared to males and seem to be accepted more easily. If I do add another flasher (I have the plan for one other wrasse in this tank) then I’ll absolutely wait for a female and maybe even wait for a diamond tail or possibly a Mauritian/piscilineatus to appear.

New wrasse discovered!!

Okay, I know cleaners are usually a pain to keep buttt…

If this is ever available I’d love one. You can’t say that’s not just adorable.

It is also a deep water species. I doubt we’ll ever see it.

True, but then so are tilefish and we see them every so often.

Very interesting! But sorry I’m gonna have to gowith meh.
It’s hard to tell. These scientists photos are always awful lol

Went to visit Mrs. Vivien’s in QT jail today. I took her the new bed I had made so that she can start using it for a couple weeks during observation after treatment. Going to take little longer with observation just to be careful after her friend had a mouth injury and infection. I’m traveling off and on this next month, but when I get back I’ll bring her home into her own tank for a little more observation.

On the way home, I stopped by my two LFS. Quality Marine must’ve had some good stuff on the order list lately. I saw two baby Magmas, maybe two inches at most. And my other LFS had a nice Rhomboid male that came in a few days ago. He was trying to hide from me, but he was beautiful. He would only come out in eat if I stood far back from the tank.

Sorry for posting my wrasse diary for today, I’m just overly caffeinated and wanted to share some photos of pretty fish. :D

Oh, just one more. I also saw the largest male leopards I’ve seen in many years. He was a stud.

Ive seen some large Ornatus at an LFS just 30 minutes from me, they must be 6” at a minimum.

Yeah this guy was easily 6 inches and build like a slab of beef. Haven’t had leopards in several years, and I forgot how much of a presence those big guys can have!

Somewhere the idea of reefpro got in my head and while browsing through they had flame angels really cheap and I wanted a second one, so I started an order. Of course, I figured I might as well add another wrasse. It was easy to get lost in the wrasse section. Lots of really nice stuff but most off the charts in price. I found a few I liked where I wouldn't have to take out a second mortgage and ended up with this yellow banded velvet wrasse and flame angel coming tomorrow.

Although, now she’s home I think she may be a carpenteri by the striping, @SaltyT or @Crabby48 any confirmation if I got a carpenteri or a mccoskeri?

The thing putting me off of saying carpenteri is due to how round her fins are.
I'm leaning towards carpenteri, too. To me, it looks like there are a couple areas on the dorsal that are the start of filaments.

Ah well, Atleast it’ll still be a beauty!

Updates on some of mine.
The exquisite is still a bit of a wrassehole. Here he is divebombig the other fish:

The rubeus is looking pretty good. Much fatter and all horizontal crookedness is gone. Would like to see him fully straighten out though.
IMG_3933.jpeg

The dragon is a as fun as ever and has started a shell collection.
IMG_3929.jpeg

Newest additon is far more colorful than I had thought.
