For kicks, which Hawaiian wrasse? M. geoffroy is from Hawaiian waters, right?

Off topic, but my QT person is looking around for C. rubeus, a pinkie and an M. negrosensis. I'm thinking Cr + pinkie OR Cr + Mn. Any thoughts?

My tank currently has Mb, Hc, exquisite firefish, tailspot blenny, yasha shrimp goby and pair occelaris. Pretty well stocked already, but everyone is fat, getting along, and I can't keep nitrates up and I don't even have a skimmer. Maybe one or two more would tip the scales on overcrowding??

Cr is my favorite so far, but seriously love the pinkies (surprisingly.. at first I thought they were boring but now find them adorable), and Macropharyngodon have also really stolen my heart. Hmm.. Tank upgrade is at least 2 yr away, maybe more.

Yup, but as much as I love them I wouldn’t have one, the one I was hinting to is Anampses chrycosephalus which seems to be native to other islands although I’m not sure how true that is.

If it were me, I'd go with a pinkie and C. rubeus. They are some of my favourite wrasse though.
Actually, I do really like the M. negrosensis, but I have no clue how it would behave with your M. bipartitus in a smaller tank.

For now I'm staying away from additional Halichoeres and Macropharyngodon till I'm confident my tank will hold enough pods for them and my mandarin.

For those of you who have melanurus wrasses do you notice they breathe heavy/pant compared to other fish? I notice this happening and it’s kind of always been like this and I’ve had him for months and he eats very well. I believe it’s normal.

Every mel I've owned always seemed to breath heavy, but they were also the most active swimmers. I always chalked it up to them being very active. Never really thought much about it.

Good to know it’s normal. They definitely do breathe differently than other fish! And yes very active I love mine!:)

He’s out again, looking gorgeous even in his damaged state, I have officially seen who the aggressor is and it is the Jade, he went for my diamond tail when he was coming out and has also gone for some of the other wrasses.

So my unknown wrasse is starting to mature and change color. I was hoping maybe there is more clues to the identity. Pictures are shot with mixed lighting and an orange filter. His eyes are very reflective.

Edit: nope. Highly unlikely you’ll get a Eastern Pacific fish

Ive tried fish eggs, frozen copepods, live copepods, ampipods lol. I will try again some day but waiting until I KNOW my DT and SUMP have a large population of pods before.

There's always the fall back method... have a bunch of large fish + buy it from a vendor that quarantines so you can put it right into the tank...

Apparently I have one... LOL I do not know for how long though... 6-10 inches. My tank is too small for that.

We have a winner! I was hoping it was a accidental temperate fish, so I could put him in my temperate tank. Have to do a bit more research. Still might be able too. The habitat is from 10 - 250 ft. Baja Peninsula water is on the cooler side. I run my temperate at 63 degrees, so maybe.
