The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

They're so cute with their little smashers and trinocular eyes! I hear they like half shell clams, too.

Give them whole shell. Mantis don’t give a ……

Calvin is gorgeous, at the moment I’d say he looks nicer than mine as mine is fairly beaten up. Possibly by 3 fish;
Ctenochaetus binotatus
Cyprinocirrhites polyactis
Halichoeres chloropterus

My bet is still on the Jade, but I’ve seen visual aggression from the Jade and Tang not from the Hawk (albeit a week or so after the Hawk went in, the aggression began)
I know what’s in your next home made food batch.

Between the Cebu and Indonesian variants of the Lubbock's Wrasse, which one would be best?
Do they have any temperament differences, or are their differences purely location and appearance?
Lubbocks have a ton of variance in appearance and some presumably in attitude. Pick the one you like the look of best. Lubbocks is the type of wrasse where one can be boring but another will blow you away. Some of the ones with the blue around the scales are so so beautiful.

The phylogenetic tree for wrasse is a mess and I have stayed up far later than I should trying to figure it out. Guess I know what I’m doing when I have the time. Making a nice pretty family tree of wrasses.

Red leopard wrasse or blue star leopard wrasse?
My LFS has a wrasse sale going on. Well majority of the tanks are listed sale but they have wrasse in them

Second question what’s the most one would pay for a cleaner wrasse, might not look appealing but it’s job description says it all

Is red leopard a choati? I love my blue star M. bipartitis, but I understand M. choati is the creme de la creme of leopards.

Considering your in Australia, the Choati (Red) is likely to be the easiest for you, so honestly if you want it I’d say try out a Choat’s :)

It comes out to personal preference, everyone will always love the Indo but I will always prefer the Cebu for other reasons outside of it being due to colour preference.
Here’s a photo of my previous Cebu Lubbocki against my Indo Lubbocki (who I had for a similar amount of time).

I found the red/pink of the Cebu to look nicer but the whole reason I prefer the Cebu is mainly due to him being my first fairy wrasse I’ve successfully kept in my own reef and not had jump.

Two years ago my lfs had an Epibulus insidiator, the common slingjaw wrasse, and my idiot butt almost took him home before I found out how big he will get and cancelled the transaction on the last second. However, I am currently considering this fish's smaller relative, Epibulus brevis, for my tank, because I had come across this genus again as a model for a random engineering project I thought of. Just considering... I am uncertain whether I actually want to go through the trouble of ordering one from my lfs, and that's why I'm asking here. Anyone had experience with slingjaws? Are they rockmovers? Do they peck at corals(doubt)? This is the peak of cool teleost and if I don't get one now, I must have one within my lifetime.

When you do, make sure to lop off the Pseudocheilinus branch would you!?!! ;)
Also, @Slocke if you could expand the Pseudocheilinops branch with more species, that would be great, mkay?
