So after my hawkfish (which is now gone) killed my Ruby Longfin. I knew I wanted to get another to replace him… which I did
I also picked up a RedTail Flasher wrasse, but it did not do very well during shipping. Initially it appeared dead in the bag as it did not react or move and was laying on the bottom. I observed him for a bit and noticed he was breathing at a normal pace so decided to give him a chance. In the acclimation box, he is still mainly laying around, but did decid to eat a bit of frozen mysis which is a good sign. He could be “playing dead” as a defense mechanism from the stress of shipping.
Another update. My Lineatus has developed an injury just above his gill near his head. This injury appeared very faint in the acclimation box which I chocked up to him running into the side causing an abrasion injury. The injury became worse after release into the DT. I still think it looks to be an abrasion type injury, which he has made worse by running into rock work etc when hiding. It has been 3 days since his injury became worse and it has not progressed any further. He is eating very vigorously and starting to become more brave and stay out for longer stretches.
If I notice the injury worsening then I plan on removing him and placing him in a hospital tank with some Seachem Neoplex. As of now though, this injury does not appear to be causing any systemic ill effects.
In total now, I have the following wrasse in my system:
- Yellow wrasse
- Pintail Fairy wrasse
- Lineatus Fairy wrasse
- Eightline Flasher wrasse
- Ruby Longfin Fairy wrasse
- Blue Flasher wrasse
- RedTail Flasher wrasse
I plan on adding a Rhomboid Fairy wrasse as well which I was hoping to add with the RedTail and Ruby to help spread the aggression. Unfortunately the wholesaler did not have one in stock this past weekend. Their inventory showed one available, but once my LFS received their invoice; there was a message stating their inventory was wrong and the Rhomboid was removed from the order.
The only wrasse on wrasse aggression I’ve observed thus far is the Pintail chasing the Lineatus around. I am hopeful this is just temporary as they establish their hierarchy.
