I bought a red and blue wrasse tonight. Put him in my tank and my vrolik's wrasse just wont leave him be. did i make a mistake or will the aggression calm down after a while?

There is a good chance things will calm down tomorrow, with your existing wrasse flashing and veering to show dominance in the future, but there also is a chance the aggression will continue.

Observe the tank tomorrow. If the aggression is relentless and the new wrasse isnt allowed in the open then one will need to be removed.

Using a social acclimation box in the future can help.

Thanks. He lets the new wrasse swim in the open. But every now and then charges him. If i didnt have the cover over my rimless he would have been on the floor a half dozen times.

Hey Guys Im not sure how to start my own Forum on here just yet. But i was wondering if Ya'll could help me out.

i just had my water tested:

PH: 8.1, Amonia:0, Nitrite:0, Nitrate: 10/20 (the color was an in between 10 and 20) Salinity: 1.024

will the skimmer get rid of the nitrates or will i need to do a water change?

cycle is week 4.

4 peppermint shrimp, 1 sally lightfoot crab,1 feather-duster 1 coral bandit, 2 hermit crabs, and 1 snail.

suggestions?

Hi to all you wrasse experts out there! I have a question about compatibility and care of a combination of wrasses.

I have a 93 gallon cube 30x30x24 with a minimalist aquascape. I plan on feeding pellets 2-3 times a day, nori, and frozen mysis and cyclopeeze once each per week. Current inhabitants are two misbar ocellaris, a Banggai cardinal and an orange spot goby. Will also eventually add a foxface and kole tang.

I would like to keep the following wrasses:
H. Melanurus
M. Meleagris
P. Mccoskeri
C. Solorensis

Will this work? If not, any other suggestions for 4 compatible wrasses? Of the 4, the only one that concerns me is the leopard, as I've read they can be picky eaters. Should I be worried? Any concerns about tank size or feeding regimen with these?

Having some nitrates is normal. Water changes are the most effective way of dealing with them. A protein skimmer takes out things that contribute to nitrate readings but won't on its own actually reduce them. Although there are biological functions in areef that do lower nitrates, they usually aren't as rapid as what builds nitrates up.

Personality wise, that mix of wrasses should work.

I would encourage feeding either frozen mysis or cyclopeeze everyday with the leopard until it takes the pellets.

Try finding a leopard at a LFS and see if it is eating prior to purchase. Part of what makes them difficult is they do not ship well and often have internal parasites which make getting proper nutrition difficult.

It is also a good idea to use a social acclimation box when adding a new wrasse to a tank with existing wrasse.

Very active, pretty difficult fish. I am unaware of any success stories with them, but it is also not often offered. Large system, peaceful tankmates, frequent feedings.

I think I will give the leopard a shot, failing that I really like the yellow wrasse. Started with dry rock so I have zero pods at present... Can anyone recommend a good starter culture?
