[Sense of nature]

Hi everyone
I'm hoping to get some sort of answer here.
I have a tankful of wrasses, 3 meleagris, 2 bipartitus, 1 yellow coris 2 blue flashers ,& 2 McCoskers.
All fish are long term residents,w some being 4 yrs old .My tank is a well established Sps dominant tank, so all my levels are great.
I have 1 Meleagris that's transitioning to a male,just started to in the past week
in the past 2 days I have lost 2 wrasses a potters & my Radiant :(
Both fish were fine ,healthy & eating the night before,Lights come on in the am & found 1 dead ea day for the past 2 days
Does anyone think this could be attributed to the transitioning Meleagris?
I have not observed any aggression towards any fish from him/her.
I've sat & watched for hours & nothing .
My heart breaks as Both the deceased fish were among my Favorites.
I would hate to lose any others obviously .
Anyone else have similar experiences?

@Sense of nature - Am sure @eatbreakfast will chime in , but in my experience - wrasses like Macrophryngdon, Anampses and Halichoeres become quite territorial during transitioning phase . I myself experienced quite a territorial biparitus make towards other sand burrowing wrasses only a few weeks back.
I was lucky not to have experienced any mortality .

Out of curiosity , how big is the tank and how often do you feed ?

On a side note - who picked up the Pseudojuloides kaleidos that was for sale a minute back in Diversden ? :mad::(:(
I have been waiting for one to show up for ages .
It went away before I could pay although I added it to cart !!

@Abhishek is right. When they transition they're aggression can get amped up. It doesn't always happen, but it can. It really depends on the specimen.

Tank is a 220 reef, I feed to often lol, @ least 2-3 times a day, ( small amounts usually) everyone is fat & healthy.
I just cant figure out why (if that is the case of aggression ) that it didn't/hasn't gone after my yellow coris, which id definitely another male?
Great mysteries of SW keeping I guess?
Hope someone else maybe has/had a similar experience, I would hate to worry/think there is something else that might be causing mystery deaths...
I'm still heartbroken:(

Where do the color changes begin in a flame wrasse during transition to male? I have a female in QT that I got about a week ago and looking at her tonight I can almost swear there is some yellow in her belly and the throat area.

When I had my flame pair and the female started to change the first thing I noticed was that yellow was starting to show up.

I have a female wrasse that’s changing and she will not give my yellow flank a brake and they have been together for more than a year even qt’ed together. Wish I could catch her and give her a time out in the acc box but that’s a hard task she do not bother any of my other wrasse hope it calms down.

I have a question about the solar wrasses.

I have a 180 coming next month and it's going to be a wrasse/anthias playground. If the solar wrasse was added second to last (before only a labouti) should I expect problems? I absolutely love the look of them. That said, if I'm better off avoiding one I will

I don't know if it's worth noting, but I only have one male.. an exquisite. My lunate is a female and so is the flame and rhomboid wrasse that are coming next Tuesday. I intend on adding only females wherever possible

Another wrasse lover here. I have a lineatus, femininus, flame, solarensis, and mystery among other fish in a 200 gallon display. I will say that the solarensis chases around the mystery wrasse but thats about it.

Every wrasse I have was bought as a juvi/female. I feel like that gives me the longest life expectancy, plus watching the transition is neat [emoji108] The yellow and both leopards were all super tiny, maybe an inch. They’ve grown considerably.

Looking great! I agree with you. Mine are all small females except my Brunneus. He is the old man and the most timid. Have had him for about 2 years.

I've been collecting females myself. My exquisite was supposed to be a female but came in as a handsome young/small male. My lunate has doubled in size and is currently transitioning and I have a female rhomboid and female flame wrasse coming next week from Colby at PIA. I was supposed to get them this week but due to the weather we opted for next. I love that I'll get to watch them grow and keep them longer than had I bought terminal males.

Beautiful collection! I think your C. jordani is well on it's way to being a male!

I just bought a female jordani for my first female. I just don't see many Cirrhilabrus and no Paracheilinus (except for an occasional P. octotaenia). I'm sure on the look out though. I like the way you're doing it!
