The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

You Know the worst part of adding a new Leopard is waiting for it to come out of the sand LOL! I added my black Leopard yesterday afternoon, and hit the sand right away...now it is wait time.....he he....[emoji6]

This is my first black Leopard, they had him at my LFS for several weeks, he is a good size, when the put Mysis in he attacked it, so I took him home. My other 5 Leopards get along great, I don't have any pairs, too chicken to try it, so they are all different. So hopefully there won't be a issue when he comes out!

I can’t take the chance of adding one anytime soon as my ornate is a big bully at times and they are to laid back.

I think the main reason that mine is a bully is because she changed from female to male in the tank and was the only leopard for a while so he rules the sand and rocks[emoji23][emoji23] he don’t like to see my bluestar eat or go to sleep before him.

I got out of work a little early today and on the way home, I stop by a LFS. I cannot believe my eye when I saw a beautiful Terminal Male Pin tail for $69.00. I got the employee feed him, he was eating well and have no mark or defect on him. I cannot believe my luck. He came to the LFS on 7/3. The owner contemplated bringing him home but she did not want to deal with "...dripping him in before the holiday plan."
Needless to say, he is dripping to go into my QT system right now. Salinity at the LFS was 27ppt. I need to bring it up to 35ppt so it will take about 1 hr. Here are some of the pictures I took as I am doing this. Wish me luck everybody. I hope I won't end up like several with spinal injury or swim bladder infection. This beautiful wrasse is about 2.5 inches.

Nice catch....I am going to "try" to stay out of LFS for a while! LOL!

GL with the Pin....
My Ornate is a big boy too easily 4-5” and is bully also with other Leoaprds, but only with the ones closer to its size

So my new flame fairy is doing great! So far eating like a pig and no fighting with my pintail, rhomboid, or leopard.. so far looks like he is holding his own with my purple tang..(the boss of the tank) this evening he has been out flashing at everyone and wow it truly is a beautiful fish.. pics don’t do it justice

Thoughts on the aggressiveness of sailfins? (c. cyanogularis) My guess given they're in a more aggressive complex there will be some issues? Most of the wrasse I have/will have are all more peaceful and smaller species so I don't want anything that's going to cause grief!

The Bluethroat Fairy is very aggressive. In my 320, he was the second one to go in after a larger Labouti. He and the Labouti fight constantly for 1 whole week. Initially the Labouti was the victor 75% of the time, by the end of the week, the Bluethroat have the upper hand 75% of the time. The victor is the one ended up chasing the other after each encounter.
I have to remove him from the tank and sell him back to the LFS. It is possible that with a bunch of Fairy wrasses, he may not be the clear winner, but I am sure he will end up near been the top dog in the tank.
He sure is a beautiful wrasse

Thanks for your input! That kills that idea haha

That doesn't encourage me to get another leopard. My Potters has been in my tank almost 5 years and transitioned from female to male shortly after I got him. I know they aren't as pushy as ornates but I think I will be content with him as my only leopard and concentrate on fairy and flasher wrasses.

Ok. The LFS got in what he is calling a Japanese pintail wrasse. I didn’t get a pic. He said it’s a new species. The one he has is SO cool!!! Purple and pinks and oranges!
He is asking $150 for him and said they were 3-400 at one time. Anything know anything about them or their temperament? I’m assuming kind of like a normal fairy wrasse. I have a blue star leopard and a McCosker flasher - those are my only wrasses. I like sets of 3. He would be my 3rd wrasse. Any suggestions or experience?
