So my new flame fairy is doing great! So far eating like a pig and no fighting with my pintail, rhomboid, or leopard.. so far looks like he is holding his own with my purple tang..(the boss of the tank) this evening he has been out flashing at everyone and wow it truly is a beautiful fish.. pics don’t do it justice

LOL....good thing you checked though....yrs ago one of my first fish was a six line Wrasse.....I should have googled that fish....he had to be removed a few yrs later, turned into a mass murderer.....took him to my LFS......

Ok. The LFS got in what he is calling a Japanese pintail wrasse. I didn’t get a pic. He said it’s a new species. The one he has is SO cool!!! Purple and pinks and oranges!
He is asking $150 for him and said they were 3-400 at one time. Anything know anything about them or their temperament? I’m assuming kind of like a normal fairy wrasse. I have a blue star leopard and a McCosker flasher - those are my only wrasses. I like sets of 3. He would be my 3rd wrasse. Any suggestions or experience?

That is about the going rate for the C. Isosceles (Pintail) wrasse. I had one before he perished due to hitting my T5 reflector, and never recovered. Very sad day, because I purchased mine when he was just over 2" long. Mine was with much larger Ornate leopard wrasse, Yellow wrasse, Halichoeres melasmapomus (Ear muff wrasse), 2 Frame Wrasse and never showed any aggression. He would hang out with the bigger flame wrasse and follow him around. I think this was because I acclimated them both together and introduced them to the tank at the same time.

I would say if you have the chance and a nice acclimation box... GO for it! They are a beautiful addition.

He would go to QT first. There was a “sunset wrasse” at the other LFS a while ago. I didn’t get it. And I totally regretted it. I love unique fish that not many other people have. They don’t get them in very often. I think I’ll call in the morning and have them hold him for me. I have a blonde naso and a powder blue in my 40 QT right now. The pintail can go in my 20 QT. I have a divider made for the 40 in case my powder blue is a jerk. Lol.
Or the pintail by himself could go in a 10 gallon for QT I suppose. (Ok - thinking out loud)

Can either of you tell me from your experience how a C. Isosceles and a C. Lunatus would do since they are from the same subgroup if introduced at the same time? Or would that be like playing with fire, just waiting to be burnt. ;)

Yikes, you are going to put a PB in with wrasses? Have you already moved to your 180? I've heard some horror stories of PB not playing well. I would be worried about him him chasing the smaller wrasses and causing the Pin tail to jump.

I have not heard about PB with wrasses being an issue. No PB is in QT. I got her and the Naso together in hopes they will be friends. And I have a full grown sailfin and foxface in my older tank that are to be lived to the 180. My plan was to get Naso and PB through QT together and add all at the same time to the main tank. The Naso and the sailfin are much larger than PB so I am hoping it will put her in her place! Only heard of them having issues with other tangs.

H. biocellatus vs H. chrysus - If picking only one, which would it be? Leaning towards the red-lined as it will be slightly smaller, assuming they're the same general temperament as per the reef safe wrasse article.

I think both are fairy different in their coloration, if you have a lot of wrasses in a large tank like mine then I recommended both. However, if you have a small tank and can just have one, I would pick the adult that you like.
I have a Melanurus and a Biocellatus. I am looking for a Radiant to add to the tank also.

In general. I don't think Flat Body fish bother wrasse very much. I have a PBT (will move to my 320 later), 2 Flame Angels in my 65 with Lubbock Fairy, Blue and McCosker
Flashers. There is no aggression between the angels and the tang toward the wrasse.

X2....never had an issue either with tangs or lg Angels, but some of the more aggressive species of Anthias may pose a problem like my Bartlett’s which sometimes will chase the smaller Fairy’s and Flashers.

Update on black Leopard Wrasse....he was added Wednesday afternoon, he went right into the sand after acclimation, he made his first appearance this morning for a little bit, and then hit the sand sgain. I didn't see any harrassment by the other Leopards, so far so good.....

I have two diamond and eightline I did not add them at the same time but I did use a acc box to add the eightline. With that said I did have a diamond and royal together in qt without any problems. They did not make it.

If you are able to buy 2 at one time, I would add them both at the same time.

Flasher will be fine together other than Eightline. They are more aggressive. Other flasher will be fine as you add them. I added Blue Flasher, McCoskeri one a few weeks after the other no problem in a 65 gal tank.

I also added a variety Flasher at various times in my 40 gal QT system with no problem.
