I prefer LPS to SPS but I find SPS easier. Or at least the LPS I like the look of seem to be very picky about flow and lighting and maybe something else.

You know, I like randy. His diy calibration fluid saved my tank back in 2008.
I used to use use ro/di water to calibrate with. THIS WAS A BAD MOVE. New mexico has such bad water... Anyhow..

My tank sg was between 1.035 and 1.037 my corals were melting. My fish hated life. But were surviving somehow,.

But here's the story.
I was losing mushrooms and toadstool corals. Come on, how do you kill mushrooms and toadstools? nitrates were around 20, phosphates were low. Yes, I remember. Back in the year of 2000+ any sign of nitrate was the reason your coral were dying! I didn't believe it.

I could not pin what was going on and lots of browsing I ran into a subject on "you are calibrating wrong, and calibration fluid is a scam!" Somehow I magically ran into the diy calibration fluid and after making it. I was crying. I was murdering my shrooms with 1.035 water.

I hate the prices of the marketed calibration stuff. It's why I don't go hana. But, having someone read the color for me, might help. I am at the point of after growing a few acros from frags to small colonies. I don't care now. Just as long as the colors stay consistant.
