I opened the box, here is what you get.

20230307_153507.jpg 20230307_153900.jpg 20230307_153715.jpg 20230307_153501.jpg 20230307_153436.jpg 20230307_153325.jpg 20230307_154044.jpg

I was very surprised how light it is. I not sure about how light it is. It seems it will just blow away in the tank. Your growing coral will be heavier than the tile and it's flat. No boss under the tile to drop it in a rack.
It is very porous. Breaks apart easily.
At max you can get 4 pieces for frags.
I mounted two green slimer frags the other day, one on a standard mount and one on a piece of this novum tile. Working in the tank and accidentally broke off a couple pieces.
One is smaller on the tile. I made a complete mess of it. I used water super glue(only thing I had) and the tile sucked up the glue. LOL.
I did not take pics of the frags yet, I wasn't too make sure they are good first. Last night they seemed okay, polyps out.
Stay tuned.
Expensive box.

Like when you buy a $2 bottle of water, you're paying $2 for a plastic bottle.

Sorry to call you guys out but.....If this frag plug had a fancy name like "Crayola kryptonite Quantum Smash" frag plug, you would all be running out to buy one. It's not the Hobby thats ridiculous, it's the people in the hobby doing the purchasing.

Not expensive for me. My wife dropped a raffle ticket in the box. We just happened to win it.
I figured I may as well see what happens and post my findings.

No way would I actually buy one, lol.

The frag was blowing around on the frag rack in the main display. That and because I didn't have the proper glue to mount it, I ended up drilling a small hole and remounted it. Then I made a rack in my sump I mounted a 175 watt medal halide lamp I had laying around. Wish I had a par meter....
Less flow in the sump and its not blowing around. The light is 14k and is about 20" from the surface. The rack top is 5" below the surface.
Not the greatest setup but Let's see what happens.
There is a big disparity between sizes. According to the box it should out pace the normal disk, right?

This 1/4 chunk of frag tile is way to light. I have minimal flow in my sump and it keeps blowing over, maybe would be better. The green slimer is almost white cuz it's always up side down.
If they had a boss on one side that would prevent it from tipping over.
Definitely not worth the price imo.

Now as for coral health, I've cut and bought frags off the same colony, put two or 3 side by side, with one or more haulting growth.

Crazy LOL pretty sure I jinxed myself.

Two frags off the same colony. Left one was growing insanely fast, encrusted the plug in less then 3 weeks

Oh man they hit you with the "Leveraging" buzz word at the very start. I couldn't read the rest. I've been around corporate marketing long enough to know when a paragraph is going to be a waste of time to read.

maybe i'm crazy but wouldn't the layer of superglue or epoxy form a barrier between the frag and the plug so there would be no benefit? maybe with an encrusting coral covering the plug it would help but not so much with a stick growing up?

Well, since I posted the end of May, I've had two good months of growth from my two Frags and I got to say that this is probably snake oil. I got the same amount of growth from both pieces. They both encrusted a little bit but that's about it.

knew it!
snake oil!!

this hobby wasn’t this ridiculous back in 2011,
sure, the naming thing was carrying over from the aughts….

but i remember feeling like it was a closer knit community,
and insurance salesman weren’t as commonplace as they are now.

certainly, no one would of had the audacity to try and sell one of these back then…
they would of been lol’d outta town

I just dose snake oil in my tank for good growth . It's 499.99$ for a 3oz bottle if you buy it in the next 24 hours from me. Recommended dosing rate is 30mL per five gallons every other day. It'll make your corals grow as much as 600% faster! It might take a little bit of time for it to work (~340 years~), but it works like magic! Hit me up!

Their website is crazy, BTW. Ah yes, the wild crinoid on the reef definitely is doing so well because of your 200$ piece of calcium. That isn't even a coral. They also have a picture of a mushroom and a vaguely unhappy hammer.

And their "white paper". First of all, the background is black. Misleading. Second, what even is this? They're trying to pass this off as a scientific report, when it's just misleading and self-promotional. I'm sure this was peer-reviewed...
