Did an ICP test on my well water. This is what I got. This seems just as good as water from an RO/DO unit! Pay no attention to the pink notifications. I registered this sample as an aquarium test by accident.

That is pretty good. The phosphorus and silicon are a bit higher than I would like to see but its not as bad as could be expected.

I'm wondering if I should be shocked at 0.02ppm uranium...

Ha! I don’t know. But I compared my water to saltwater (Fiji) and I have less uranium in my water than the ocean. Go figure. I tested my water to see if I could quit buying water from the LFS. I am gonna buy a DI unit... no RO necessary... and filter some stuff out. But I’m gonna save myself some money. Good old tap for me!

But still, the ICP reference shows my chlorine lower than that in natural seawater.

very true. is the test testing chloride or chlorine gas? any idea? maybe it doesn't know the difference....

i should get around to sending mine out as well, i can only imagine whats in my water......;Nailbiting

It’s eye opening. I use RO/DI water that I purchase in my tank and my husband uses tap water in his. Hubby’s tank has been covered in hair algae for a year. I keep telling him that his algae issue is due to his using tap water. But now I’m preparing to set up a 90 gallon tank and the thought of buying and hauling 50 gallons of water is not fun. So, I sent off a sample of my water to see if I could just drag the hose inside. Gladly, I feel comfortable that I can do that. A little Prime in the water and I’m good to go! And now I know that hubby has poor husbandry methods. Actually, that’s not true. He just has very little time.

@Brew12 you would be surprised at the uranium count in the Tennessee river near where we live. I wonder why? LOL!
I think there is uranium in everyone’s water for the most part. It’s found everywhere. If I weren’t very smart, I’d blame you for my uranium... I’m in Mobile... just down the river a bit. ;)

What are you referencing for natural sea water parameters?
The ICP test compares the test sample to the results of water from Fiji. I haven’t looked at anything else. No doubt different oceans (and different areas of the same oceans) have different water. And I’ve never compared the test company’s Fiji water to anything official.

Yes, there is. But, I saw a water analysis done by a large power company near their facility. ;)

silicon is that similar/same as silicates that everybody talks about?

this sounds almost counter intuitive to me. seems like you could potentially burn through Resin, trying to save some money when the RO membrane and filters could block some of that. I think i would take tds meter and see what the tds is from faucet.

Yep. This. A membrane would last a long time for you and make the resin last a ridiculous amount of time as well.

You’re probably right. But here’s the thing. My husband is a chemist and the quality manager at a large chemical plant. He’s my local expert. He seems to think that the DI is all that’s necessary. It will get rid of stuff we need to get rid of without having to pass water through a membrane. We would also be able to avoid a lot of waste water too.

The DI unit I ordered has a built in TDS meter.

Gotcha, I didn’t know how that worked. Is there a chart showing Fiji results you could post?

Here you go!

I’d have to highlight each element to show each comparison but that would require 40+ pictures. Is there a particular one you’re interested in?
