Hi guys just got 2 Orphek Atlantiks over my 4’ tank. It’s been about a week and I’m trying to dial in the lights so I can set and forget. I stuck with the Orpheks recommended Helius program; just delayed it 2 hrs so I can see it more in the evening as I’m working during the day. I stuck with their recommended spectrum ratio throughout the day and then turn things more blue towards evening for viewing pleasure. I have clouds setting on as well as moonlight for midnight to 8. How’s this look? I’m a nooby trying to start growing SPS. Any input helps! Thanks!

I don’t have any thoughts to help but you did make me think.
I have been pondering their lighting with the built in lunar cycle and now I am wondering what the impact might be for coral living north of the tropics of the incongruent lunar pull combined with the lighting cues that don’t match?

It is to my understanding that the lunar setting is fully customizable!

I was thinking that these settings were supposed to mimic nature with the idea the corals would feel at home, based upon day and night lighting exposures. I just wondered how the corals feel with light saying one thing and gravity (lunar & solar rotations) saying something else? Do they even notice?

Looks like you’ve got a solid setup going! I’ve been using Orphek lights for a while now, and I found that the Helius program works well as a starting point. I like the idea of adjusting it to fit your schedule, especially for evening viewing. Just make sure to keep an eye on your SPS corals—lighting can be tricky with them, so if you start seeing any bleaching or slow growth, you might need to tweak the intensity or spectrum a bit. The moonlight setting is cool, but I’d watch for any signs of stress from too much light during the night. Keep adjusting and watching how the tank reacts!

Oh my! That’s a little too advanced for me :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Thank you! Yes will definitely keep an eye out. Im surprised my LPS haven’t complained yet. They all look good and I have mostly LPS! The only complaint I have is how white the spectrum is. I was so used to running heavy blues to get the coral colors out but it’s definitely a more sharper clean look so I’m getting more accustomed to it!

Me too, but you still deserve credit for sparking the line of enquiry. I posted it with hopes that current Climate Scientist Students who are being challenged in their grey matter amongst the grey literature might provide a quick literature update or summary on the topics of lunar and solar orbits and their gravitational impacts and photoperiod synchronicity amongst reef animals near and far from their ancestorial equatoral homes.
