Thoughts on Professor Polyps bubble bath?

This stuff seems to be getting legendary status before anybody outside of Utah has even used it. Its primary ingredient is cleaner-strength peroxide. It's much cheaper to buy a $1 bottle of 3% peroxide and use it full-strength on (or in) bubble algae. Lowes offers 12% food grade peroxide (no additives of any kind) by the gallon for around $22. I think RH-F said Bubble Bath is 15%.

The key aspect of PP is that it has conditioners and buffers to make the peroxide not so harsh on corals when you use it as a dip. I wouldn’t know what advantages it has over peroxide as a broadcast application in the tank itself.

I’ve ordered some to dose my mixed reef 180g as I have a really bad crysophyte issue that a buddy told me pp fixed. I do have a dragonette pair though. Do I risk starving them by killing off all the pods or with a full 180g mature system the pod population should still survive?

Peroxide vs algae is a bust...MANY threads on it here and elsewhere. Success rate is similar to doing nothing...some blooms just die out.

You need to determine what caused the bloom if possible, then remedy that situation.

At the same time you ought to be removing as much algae by hand or by syphon as you are able to.

Finally, make sure your cleanup cew receives an upgrade.

The one thing peroxide can work for is spot treating algae, but you need a whole different approach for that. (i actually have a thread for that if you wanna look it up)

I’m going by firsthand anecdotal recommendation here for crysophytes specifically. I’ve blown them off or siphoned them daily for a long time, finally got my nutrients down to ok levels and the crysophytes exploded again and are growing everywhere. I need another way to kill what I’ve got going on. That’s where bubble bath comes in.

...if the came back you did not find the cause yet. The cause is not "nutrients" as in N or P.

If anything, messing with lowering n and p may have set the stage for their return.

N and P will be required by whatever displaces the pest algae on your rocks. You'd prefer to see (eg) coralline or even green hair algae instead. Either will require adequate N and P or it cannot happen.

Another thoughy that may help: Many algae produce peroxidase's as they mature. This means that peroxides are trivial to most algae...it can rapidly be processed to other compounds.

Spot treatment works by making local perxide concentration MUCH higher. You could not raise the tank's levels that high without killing everything.
