Japanese reefs often makes use of negative space with more open rockwork and few actual corals. The focus is on larger- more highlighted colonies. Some aquarists go to the extent of spotlighting each coral.

17g Lifeguard Rimless Low Iron with mitered corners and clear silicone
14.5-15.25g total system water volume
Bare Bottom
Filtration: Sumpless
Skimmerless
Tufa and True Indonesian Live Rock seeded with Aussie Rubble
Oase Filtosmart 100 Thermo Canister with 100w heater
Siporax and Cryptic Live Rock with most of the prefilter removed
Lighting: Giessman Minox 55w LED
Flow: Jecod DMP-5(vortech clone)
-no submerged electric of any kind
Top Off: Small glass 1g canister hidden in a planter- most likely a Tunze osmulator nano will be used

Here’s my Ato reservoir - a 1gallon glass cookie jar hidden in a ceramic planter I found on clearance at Walmart

This is a single GFCI I picked up off Amazon. I’m waiting on the 15 amp DJ switches to arrive. I think I’ll mount them along the back of the standing planter.

Indeed. One of the other goals here is for the system to be dead silent. The Oase is silence personified and the light is passively cooled. I’m hoping to get lucky with the small Jecod. Lending from the minimalist concept is attempting to achieve the least intrusion into the space.

Right. The tank and everything else should be as invisible as possible with the focus entirely on the contents.
If you can get the illumination right, that is what will make it. If you could light only the contents and not the surroundings with enough light, you nailed it.

Just picked these up from my friends over at Max Reef LLC. They’re a bit of a pain to setup and calibrate, but it’s nice to have an on demand, scientific grade reading. I contemplated the controller/probe/ continuous monitor route, but this lets me be more hands on with the tank and eliminates the clutter.

I can't comments on the ph pen but I've had two of the salinty checkers and both read .002 low when calibrated with Hanna calibration fluid. Just mentioning it in case you don't have another device to compare it to.

Good to know. I did feel like it was a bit low, but the cheapo hydrometer matched. I’m going to check again tonight. I appreciate the heads up!

Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the Minox needed an additional controller. -Beautiful and powerful little light

The DJ switches are mounted to the side of the planter- hiding them from the front but making them instantly accessible from the side.
