Learned something new recently about goniopora frags. I was exploring how to get the Goni to grow horizontally instead of vertically. I noticed that once the frag had reached the end of the frag plug, it started growing more vertically and not horizontally at all. In fact, it actually started to grow down the side of the frag plug. So I decided to get a flat piece of dry rock, and drill a hole into it approximately the size of the frag plug. Then glue the frag into the hole so that there would be a continuous plane upon which the frag could grow. Well, experiment was a success. The frag is actually getting larger in width instead of in height. A couple of before and after pics.

Update on this experiment. The goni loves the new situation with a flat plane to grow on horizontally. First pic a week after going into my tank.
Second pic when I started this thread
Last pic just now.
Goni is obviously much more happy with a flat plane to grow on horizontally then being on an island of a small frag plug.
