To over the top for a 15 gal???

Defiantly a bit overkill IMO for that sized tank. Have you looked into the AI Prime? Its a bit smaller, and has a ton of power, plenty for that sized aquarium.

Which AI prime?? (Needs to support most corals) And will this current LED hurt anything in the tank??

There is only 1 AI prime out I believe (50 watt model). Should be just fine for a mixed reef, especially for zoas and LPS. I would recommend keeping the lights on low power starting off, and slowly bumping up the power to avoid baking the corals. The current one in picture may burn out the corals a bit depending where they are placed in tank.

It's dimmable so you should be fine. Just keep it at a lower intensity.

The prime is well worth it. With the my ai app or website you can control each color string, weather effects, ramp up and ramp down, and timing. It also has a coral acclimation setting to slowly build up light and get the new corals used to it. And the prime doesn't need a director or controller. I have a Hydra 52 on my 36 bowfront and it is worth every penny I spent on it.

I would stay away from the Marineland strips. You could always try the Diy route, but to get control over it you need something like an apex or reefkeeper.

If you can, I'd go for a good quality light. It's one of the most important parts of the build. On my first build I tried to go cheap on a few things and ended up spending more in the long run. My current build is taking longer, but I'm not going to be replacing equipment with better pieces down the line.

Check out the reef breeders or reef radiance lights. They are good leds for the price you are looking for, I don't think you will get automated control though.

Theres a guy selling a Maxspect for nano in the selling section of the forums for $125 shipped I believe. Maxspect makes some nice lights with 2 channels for intensity and color. Also has a built in timer and ramping settings.

Never heard of that brand. For $50 more you can have a nice quality LED light.

I have this on my 36g tank. I first had it on my 54g tank. It's a nice light but if you want to do corals your better off spending a little more money
