I bought a toadstool a few days ago and the foot is now coming apart in chalky clumps what do I need to do to save it? Its stalk is also so long that it cant hold the coral up. Can i just frag the foot down some to cut the dying part off and make it to where it can stand up?

Can you post a pic? More than likely I would cut away the dead parts.

don't pick it too much, toast tool are notorious for releasing extremely toxic chemical when stress out, you need to run carbon if you are onna keep one, otherwise your tank will be a large bowl of toxic soup. torch coral and toat stool hate eachother, don't let them near, chemical warfare will happen, run carbon.
