Toadstool polyp question

Good morning all! So I have a toadstool, and when I first got it the polyps seemed to reach out quite long from the body, but now, even though polyps open most of the time, they stay close to the body. What is the difference? Is this okay?

how much par is he getting? I recently did some adjusting down on mine and everything extended a bit and colored up more. Think I am down to about 104watts on peak with my reefi right now.
I'm guessing btw.

I don’t know. I don’t have access to par meter. But my lights, which are Hipargero 100 watt LED’s the blues and violet are at 95%, both whites are at 20%, and the tank is 24 inches deep. The toadstool is only a couple inches up from the bottom.

I’ve had these for years, …I mean literally dozens of these leathers…several types…
I’ve NEVER been able to pin down any rhyme nor reason to the polyp extension NOR why or whether they go into bailout mode and you end up with zillions…
Heck that last one was shriveled up for weeks and the 2nd photo just came out of its funk after several days,…

Added, not sure about actual par levels, but trust me: I’m not certain it even matters with these (within reason)

Yeah, mine stayed completely closed but the body fully open for like 3 months! I was worried but from my research, as long as the body is opened up and colored, all is good. And by my experience at least, that seems true. Ever since then, the polyps now stay open, but short, not elongated. They are strange but beautiful animals for sure.

Leathers a very tough and moody. Worse than a teenage girl. If you touch, bump think about touching them, change in water flow, look at them, glance at them they will close up and pout. Maybe for a few days maybe for a week or two.

They will shed get all dull and looks like a slimy coat on them. It can glisten when the film is fresh. Over a few days they will shed this layer and open back up. Also during the shed parts will opens as the shed comes of and the rest will continue to shed.

Yep! That sounds about right! Mine is growing like a freaking weed! It has more than quadrupled in size in just like 6 months.
