So today on day or 75 out of 76 days fallow... I find one of my clownfish that I did TTM with, has died. I went downstairs to check out the little 10 gallon hospital tank I have had set up for over two months and found the little one being sucked into the hob input.

It’s so sad because I have had these fish so long and they were the last fish I had left before adding them back to my display tank in about two days!!!! I’m unsure how he male is going to do now that he is alone and he just seems sad not swimming around much.

Has anyone had anything similar? The bigger one had ich for quite some time off and on and I was under the impression I cured her. To find her dead today was heart breaking!!

Will this solo clown be ok? Should I still move him into my display sooner than later?

:/

Yes, he/she is the only clown in the tank with other mixed reef fish. And growing, healthy and behaves normally.
That’s my only problem is since my tank is fallow he will be the only one for a while.. I need to first pick out a. New first fish and then when I get it qt it. Just hope he’s fine. I wonder why the other one died. Here’s some
Bad pics if anyone is good at this stuff

://// sorry to update but I came home today to the other clown dead. He survived 76 out of 76 days in a hospital tank to die the day he’s expected to return to his home.

Can’t decide to say forget it all and get rid of my tank all together or to start again with all new inhabitants. I’ve had my display fallow for 76 days now and no longer have anything to add to the tank.

This stinks

Sorry for your losses. You could take this opportunity to go get the one fish you’ve always wanted as a way to restart your tank. Obviously I would still recommend QT’ing anything new.

I would also sterilize the qt. The clowns look like something else got them. I’m not a pro at fish disease, as until recently my fish were all old. Really old. My clown I’ve had 14 years.

Any ideas what could have gotten to them? They’re on a whole different floor from my display and I’m not really sure what could have gotten them if it’s like nothing has been done differently or anything. No new additions or whatnot. These have been my
Longest fish and like it was strange because my female clown was the one w ich and the little guy never really had any outbreaks.

The pics also were like after the fish was being pulled into the HOB inlet. So like I imagine that sort of caused some of the darkness. No idea tho.

It's very uncommon to see ich on clowns. They have an extremely thick mucus coat. So usually even if ich is present it would go unnoticed.

This is likely Brook. From what I can see in the picture it's my best guess along with the description you provided. TTM will not eliminate Brook because it reproduces on the fish itself. It has a direct life cycle.

It's typically a quicker killer than your describing but they may have been somewhat tolerant/resistant and it finally took hold.

These are some pics of my clowns when I saw it was ich and treated. These were dots that have been there for over a year until I said I’ll finally do something about it and go fallow.

These pics are from well over a span of many months and maybe even 2 + years.

Does this look like brook? @HotRocks @4FordFamily

In the first few photos I think I see brook towards the rear dorsal fin. But the others definitely look like ich. Although clowns aren’t particularly susceptible to ich, with a brook or velvet affliction ich could take a stronger hold as well.

Thanks for a quick response

I guess at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter now what they had unfortunately. Just stinks it seemed they lasted 75/76 days fallow which really could have been 77 days fallow as I think I started a count few days later cause of precaution.

So the recommendation is to now empty the tank and sterilize everything correct? As my tank has now sat fallow for 77 days I can potentially start to place a sponge in the sump to accumulate biomedia to use for my future qt/hospital tank.

Is there any up to date preferred method to go about qt? Now that I have a blank state with my tank I’d like to start over the right way and do it right the first time around.

If you were making a list for the must have tools to starting qt what would they be?

Qt tank
Heater
PVC elbow
Air stone (maybe)

For medication I have nothing as of now

Was looking into maybe possibly doing copper as that might be the go to favorite method ( or atleast I believe)

I would probably get a Hanna copper checker
Some sort of copper treatment? Which is the best for like an overall medication to have handy?

What would be a few other important medications to have?

I’d like to stick to maybe 1-3 medications rather than 17 different types as well.

Thanks
