Nice pic. Looks like both of you have spiked hair. haha. Rabbitfish are fun to watch. Mine used to go to the top, suck in air to make bubbles, and he'd play with them all day.

That's a nice new addition, and one that will earn his keep.

4.25". extremely small for this fish.

wholesalers i've worked with have always had a hard time sourcing them this small. i've been told by one highly regarded industry expert that these fish, when collected small, are sent over to the japanese market where they are highly sought after and fetch a premium. apparently the japanese fish keepers aim to have the smallest specimens possible.

what size are you seeing them locally?

they are almost always 6"+...and usually much bigger than that.

My buddy who works at a LFS had a fairly smaller Magnificent, I didn't pick it up though. I've seen some pretty large, like 6-8 inches. I think Brad has a large one in his tank, but maybe its a scribbled.

maybe things have changed. it's been about 2 years since i've had the discussion about the small ones.

when i was working for a reef specialty shop, it took us a long time of special requests to get a small one for our show tank.

hahahah! :D

it's only the magnificent. all the other rabbits are pretty easy to come by in small sizes. i think it has something to do with the white/silver body that makes the japanese seek them specifically.

I've been seeing around that size or smaller on a regular basis. One of the LFS's here tries to keep one in stock at all times. Sells one than gets another and so on. I've seen then on a regular basis for the last 5+ months. When I picked up mine it was about 4" now its probably pushing 5".

well! I acclimated this fish to the nano at lunch and when I get home from work ~4 hours later, the algae I wanted him to eventually mow down is GONE! :o

guess he will be moving to the big tank sooner than expected...
