Too Much pineapple sponges?

I have this aquarium for about 6months and the population of pineapple sponges has appearing to increase, is this too much, this a sump photo

cannot have enough , it’s usually a high then low with pineapple sponges meaning they will multiply then reach too much then dwindle back down . Filter feeders so helpful , especially if you have macro algae
 
No such thing as too many pineapples!

In all seriousness though; they are technically working as a means of mechanical filtration, and that is indeed a LOT of pineapples…

I think the point of “too many sponges” is when you aren’t using any form of mechanical filtration, and your nutrients are still bottoming out!

I am using a mechanical filter, I’m just worried because they are really a lot

They wouldn’t be there if they had nothing to feed off of, consider them added natural filtration

Yup! They are just “picking up the crumbs”, so to speak!

They will die off to sustainable numbers once the tank continues to mature, or you can grow out the population by omitting some of your mechanical filtration so they have a sufficient food supply!
