TOS Question: ChatGPT

The scary part, which has been pointed out by RHF, is that AI only packages up information it finds on the internet and spews it as fact.

I don't know what the end game is for someone pasting AI answers but it sets a scary precedent.

LOL. You could use that perspective with half of the posts on all Internet forums.
That muddies it a bit doesn't it? It's harder to catch people that search and then put into their own words for 1st person perspective.

I think we need to bring back, "Let me google that for you."

AI generated forum responses notwithstanding, I wonder how long before AI tools will allow searches of a user's choice of actual data sources. It wouldn't be much different than the current ability to customize a Google search based on key words, such as "acropora tortusa, flow, chemistry, spectrum, feeding".

Taking it to the next level, I'll bet that within a few years we'll be able to have AI control every aspect of our reef aquariums based on the user's selection of livestock. We already have the ability to automatically test and control most aspects of an aquarium, but AI could take it to a level in which owners will just have to make the consumables available.

Seems like the natural progression of things to me. How long ago were we using wall wart timers to turn lights on and off according to a schedule? We're already at the point of automated testing, lighting, flow, feeding according to schedules, and even automated responses based on measurements like salinity, temperature, pH, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, and phosphate. Tying it all to AI, based on certain other criteria such as species doesn't seem like much of a jump.

How has it been remedied? I still see all their a.i responses....

It would be awesome if they can come up with a customizable AI search of actual YouTube video content (not video titles).

Well I don’t know who the user was but if they don’t own an aquarium and are linking AI responses only, then they might be a bot?

No idea though, just a thought.

Not knowing the full history behind this thread, I feel that this may set a sad precedent if the member was just banned without given a reason prior.
I have many times just copy and pasted information from other websites and articles that was useful to the OP asking a question. I know I am not the only one that has done it.

Are we all at risk of being banned from this site?

Nope. They made a welcome post and initially was a real person. Then they started exclusively using AI to help other users.

This is one example: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/torch-bailout.1088474/post-13154286

Oh weird, honestly they just might be a kid trying to help?

I would have just asked them to stop. They may not realize what they were doing was not received well. Maybe they thought they were participating and a younger generation may embrace AI more.

Don’t know! Again, just guessing.

I never told anyone to ban this user. I think that was a very extreme way of handling it.

I would have just privately messaged them as a mod/admin.

In this case it's very obvious...

I’m just emphasising the precedent that it brings as we often use other websites in discussions. I may have to think twice before I post a link to a article from here on now.

With respect to AI folks can usually ask for the source of the information obtained by it, with respect to questions to do with saltwater aquaria some folks would be surprised how often this forum shows up as a source of the information.
