Hi.. my name is Ron and i'm from Florence SC. i'm somewhat older at 68, and have been fascinated with reef aquariums for about... forever.. LOL. For now i'll be lurking, and doing my 'due-diligence'. As a first-timer, i know i have lots of reading to do, so a pointer to good research would be nice. Basically i'm an informational sponge so i'll read quite a bit and then dive in.

I have looked at AIO systems and have spoken with a CSR here at R2R to get a ballpark on the equipment portion. I have also looked at pre-owned tanks. Since i'm new, just wondering if anyone has thoughts on new versus pre-owned. Right now i'm looking at the 'Reefer 350 G2+ System (72 Gal) Black - Red Sea' and wondering if anyone has this unit, and if there happy with it.

ME: basically had 2 lives.. first was married and have a son and network engineer for citibank (30 yrs), and prior to being retired (now), a waterproofing consultant(15 yrs). i now live with my 2nd wife here in Florence SC. We have a '20 HD RoadGlide that we tour on, and also have a 40' 5th wheel trailer that we base out of Florence.

have a great day,

ron-

Welcome to Reef2Reef! You asked for it so here's a data bomb! :D Most important IMO is use live rock and do water changes.

"Coral Reefs in the Microbial Seas" This video compliments Rohwer's book of the same title (Paper back is ~$20, Kindle is ~$10), both deal with the conflicting roles of the different types of DOC in reef ecosystems. While there is overlap bewteen his book and the video both have information not covered by the other and together give a broader view of the complex relationships found in reef ecosystems
