Hi Guys!

Can you help me, is it possible that this Tridacna Maxima clam has PMD? At first glance, it looks perfectly healthy to me, it is open, reacts well to light, the white growth band is visible on the shell, the water parameters are correct (acropora dominated mixed aquarium, reef moonshiner method) in my opinion it gets enough light (around 300 PAR), but the edge of the mantle seems to be rippled here and there and this worries me. As far as I remember, the phenomenon has always been present, I just read about it now and that's how it occurred to me that this could be a problem.

I would like to ask the opinions of guys who are more experienced in clams, what are your views, do you think it is okay or could there be a problem with it? I have had the clam for two years now and I would like to keep it healthy.

I am attaching pictures of the clam, where the mantle has contracted, I have shaded it.

Thank you very much!

Is the last picture its current state? If so, check to see if there's anything on the shell on that side or if a fish/invert is bothering it. It just seems like it's pulled in and I'm not seeing any "wrinkles" in that area, so I would observe and see what happens in the next day or two. But, in the meantime, clear/check the shell and the surrounding area for anything that could bother the mantle.

No, in the last picture I shaded the clam to show the edge of the shell. Its current, basic state is shown in the previous pictures.

So you don't see any signs of PMD or anything else?

The lower left part of the mantle looks a little weird, but it could be the pick or maybe a past injury? But I don't see signs of PMD. If that part of the mantle starts to retract and it continues along the mantle, then yes, most likely PMD. I wouldn't do anything now and just observe. Maxima have papillae (the raised pimple-like structures on the mantle) and they can extend a ways above the mantle, which makes it look funky, but I don't see anything here that would alarm me.
What fish do you have with the clam?

I dont see any signs of pinched mantel at this time. Keep an eye out for nipping or other irritations. Great looking maxima. As long as you see new shell growth under the mantle you're in good shape. Keep us posted🤙
