Not sure if this is the right spot so sorry if not. I picked up an apex and trident around a month or so ago. I let it run normally for 3 days before calibrating the trident and since then my numbers just seem to jump all over the place. My alk test is the only one that stays mostly stable and closest to match my manual testing. It is installed on a Red Sea max nano xxl all in one tank. Does anyone have any advice on this? I have checked for air in the tubes, kinks in any of the lines, I did not shorten or lengthen the sample tube or the waste tube. I have moved the the sample hose to a few different locations trying to see if that would make a difference and I also have the sample tube filter installed on the end.

Agreed. Mag and cal are so inconsistent with testing whether it’s automatic or manual.
But let me text a friend, as he runs two on his systems.
@Troylee Hey Lee, do you have any tips?

What are the numbers moving to/from? Is it a 50 ppm jump, 100 ppm jump, etc? Also what test frequency? Also, every time you move the black sample line location, you need to recalibrate if its at a different elevation. I recommend not using the filter unless you replace it on a routine basis. If it plugs up, it will affect the tests.

That’s the thing. They have been within close range on some tests like 25ppm or less and then they have been 50 to over 100 ppm difference and sometimes they were lower and sometimes they were higher. I ended up reaching out to Neptune anyways as last Friday it started running its normal test and was making a loud mechanical whirl and I decided to look it more in depth and check all the hoses and things and water spilled out of the back of it when I moved it and then when I pulled the tray out there was some testing solution around the base of the lid on reagent B and then a pile of reagent on the floor of the inside of the unit. Still waiting for a response though. Thank you for helping!

It would probably help if you could provide some additional information.

  • New or used?
  • If used, how long was it in service prior?
  • Do you have the filter installed correctly (assuming so since alk is consistent) - image below, sourced from Neptune systems
  • As asked earlier, note the test results over a few days
  • Calibrated using manual test results or calibration solution
  • Sample line location - is it near dosing lines? What are you dosing and what is the frequency?

That should be enough to get those that can help started.

Did you buy this new or used? Nothing should be spilling. If there is sample water or reagents then there is a loose hose inside on or around the manifold. Neptune support will have you take the cover off if you are comfortable and look. You can set aside the reagents and see the manifold.

Neptune will help you.

It’s brand new and I have had it maybe a month but it’s box was crushed in on one side when it was delivered. Not the delivery box though just the trident’s manufacturing box. I do have the sample line filter installed correctly and it is not next to any dosing lines. They are on the other side of the tank. This is an aio tank as well. I am dosing PTR reefs alk and calcium and magnesium supplements and right now I am dosing 20ml of alk and only 2ml of the calcium and magnesium with trace elements. I also calibrated it with the calibration fluid that was provided from the manufacturer and I waited 72 hours before I calibrated it.

New, month, under warranty. Neptune is the source to follow.

I reached out to them via email. Just waiting to hear back from them.
