Hi all,

Can anyone help me ID this trigger and also comment if it’s reef safe (with caution) like a niger trigger would be, or not reef safe?

Thanks!

Thats a black durgon, they wouldn't nip on corals when small but will eat all your small inverts like worms, snails, snails etc. When they get too big or too hungry, they will nip on some soft corals to eat the inverts that they believe hide in

+1 to this, much less reefsafe than nigers are IME.

Thanks guys. Looks a lot like a Hawaiian black trigger, is that another name for a black durgon?
Yes, that is a Hawaiian black trigger and I’m surprised you got hold of one considering I haven’t seen them on the list for exporting fish in Hawaii.
