Trimming hammer colony

I have a larger hammer colony and was wondering if I needed to trim the dead heads off? Does this have any benefit to it?

I never have, I just leave it alone.

Either way, i usually leave them alone. Trimming them you run the risk of breaking other branches or getting something unwanted in the skeleton.

If I can see them, I normally cut them off.....only because I don't like looking at dead heads.
