Do you keep it circulating or does that cause issues too?I personally do not heat new salt water since my water changes are small each time and heating accelerates precipitation of calcium carbonate.

Interesting. How long do you typically store your saltwater for? Also, I'm assuming you also use Tropic Marin Pro?I do not circulate my new salt water after dissolution. Circulation is not needed unless you use a salt mix with organics in it, such as Reef Crystals.

Would this still apply if the water is in the 55-60 degree range? That tends to be where my water tends to be in the basement during the winter.I personally do not heat new salt water since my water changes are small each time and heating accelerates precipitation of calcium carbonate.

I wasn’t aware of that. I was following the instructions from TM. ThanksI personally do not heat new salt water since my water changes are small each time and heating accelerates precipitation of calcium carbonate.

Doesn’t temperature effect salinity?
Ok that makes sense then. I am using the TM hydrometer so that’s why temperature is important while using that methodTemperature cannot have any impact on salinity. Salinity is a measure of the mass of salt per total mass of the fluid. Temp does not alter that.
Temperature does impact the readings provided by floating glass hydrometers, which require temperature correction.
Some other devices, including most refractometers, conductivity meters, and swing arm hydrometers incorporate automatic temperature corrections into their functions, and each corrects in different ways for the way these physical properties change with temperature.
