Tuning my NYOS Skimmer?

Hey everyone. So my NYOS skimmer is a very odd beast. It will pull a ton of light colored water and fill up fast, then it will fill up sludge (but much less frequently)
How can I tune it to skim more sludge (the darker thick stuff)?
