I am using a tunze nano scraper on a Nuvo 15. It works really well but I have been noticing scratches lately. I don’t touch the sand with it, clean it, and dry it outside the tank when not in use. Has anyone else experienced scratches using a tunze magnet scraper? I use only the plastic blades and I’m about to toss the thing and go back to magic erasers.

I have been using the nano with plastic blades for about a year now and have not found any scratches.

I found a scratch on my glass, it crushed me and then I covered it with a nori feeder. The first thing I did was take the clips that hold the float on it off of both sides because I didn’t like the idea of the hard plastic against the glass. It felt like another place for sand to get caught on it. That may be why, I’m not sure.

My only suggestion is that you have to be careful that sand doesn't get in between the magnets, like when you're using it down near the sandbed.

yes- sand is the key and many dont know but black sand is magnetic and will travel along with magnet cleaners in motion

Regardless of the brand (Flipper, etc., etc.), you have to be fastidious and maniacal in keeping every single grain of sand out. It's amazing how little it can take to drag a grain along and cause a scratch!

Yes, I have scratched my tank with the Tunze scraper, even without any sand under it. I am very careful but unfortunately magnetic scrapers will scratch. I tried 3 brands and they all do. So no more for me. I just use a telescopic tool with a blade, even if it’s a pita.

I agree, I prefer a "blade on a stick" type scraper to the magnets myself. Or, I just get right in there with a Magic Eraser, works for me 😆

I have never once scratched my tank using a TUNZE scraper. I will say I also use a generic Razor Blade scraper, too, for the more stubborn algae.

I’ve just scratched my Waterbox with a Tunze scraper. I don’t even get close to the sand. Must have been how it turned in the glass. I won’t use it again unless by hand to get stubborn coraline out. Maybe not even that. And I also had to stay away from the silicone because the way the magnet moved it would chew a bit of black away from the edge. The magnet moves it too much, just by design of all of these.
