Turf scrubber only growing slime algae?

That’s so strange. Mine was 5 days of growth.

So you have strong flow through it, lots of light, detectable nutrients, and you dose some trace elements. Would you consider trying some Cheato Gro? I started it last week, and I definitely never had these results before. I can’t say it’s 100% related, but it’s interesting. I think the higher iron might be the ticket.

I will pass on that product if i need to I will increase what needs to be in my solution.

Of course I did. I used a jagged knife and had a lot of plastic shavings as a result.

Ok, LOL. When you start scraping the screen, this action removes the imperfections from the face of the screen, essentially smoothing it out. The screens can become paper thin after a lot of cleaning. I think growth occurs primarily from the imperfections within the holes, not the screen surface.

Yes. That makes sense. I think it’s the iron, and it’s pretty easy to dose that. People commonly note their algae turns pale without it.

Just saw this. Here is mine right now before cleaning it. The growth is slow and kind of tedious. I rubbed off the excess algae with my hand instead of scraping it clean like last time because the wait is excruciatingly painful. Ha.

How did your scrubber look prior to scraping? I’m stopping the Cheato Gro. I don’t like how it made some of my corals react. I’ll dose significantly less if the algae starts looking pale or something.

Wonder if anyone has an icp test from dosing chaetogro long term? Guess I might have to get one as I can’t find results anywhere. I wonder how out of whack trace elements are

What’s the purpose of the algae scrubber for you? What do you hope it accomplishes? Also, have you ever had hair algae/nuisance in the tank? I’m imagining your display very clean and algae-free.

Stabilize PO4 and eliminate algae in the display.
There is algae in the display and last week my PO4 was 0.42ppm. PO4 has been very unstable.

My goal is to control nitrate and increase nighttime O₂. How high is your nitrate? I hope my scrubber can eventually grow the turf types, but I’m skeptical and think I’ll only grow the brown stuff.

My nitrate has been around 10 ppm lately.

I have no idea what it is have not looked closely.

I just have a screen in my trickle filter with a light and grow bulb from Walmart. This is probably 2 weeks worth. Growth becomes severely limited by coraline and gha growing in front of trickle filter

Not a lot of room under a 54 corner.

Here’s mine. It took about 2 weeks. It’s so slow-growing and thin.

Nothing wrong with that!! Is that some of the pretty algae on edges. The sprig of pretty algae I had disappeared.
