My very fat 5in tusk that has been in my 300 for about 3 months has been hiding under his rock the last 3 days with a swollen eye. I would say its about double the size of his other eye. He can still move it and its not cloudy at all. Should i pull him into a qt tank or just leave him? Everything that goes into my tank has been qt so i think he got into a fight or bumped his eye on something.

Just kinda starting to worry me a tusk not showing a feeding response for 4 days

Can you upload pics?

Do you have a QT running? Do you have antibiotics on hand? Neoplex, Metroplex, Kanaplex, Furan-2?

Il try when i get home he is in the back corner and is hard to get a picture of him. And i keep a few Sponges in my sump to set up quarantine tanks. YesYes metroplex, kanaplex, think i have a litle bit of furan 2 and the one with an e.

Im worried il do more harm then good trying to catch him but if thats what needs to happen then il do it. Do theses things go away by themselves?

Sometimes if its minor I've seen it correct itself with just better water quality. However I wouldn't count on it, its better to treat it

Ok this is still not getting any better in qt. Epson slat, an the antibiotics combo in that link. I feel like it should be worse or better by now. Might it be stuck outside the socket and need to be pushed back in? He still moves it and acts like he can see out of it he started eating again but this eye is worring me

takes few days to see improvement usually. I'd keep the antibiotics and water changes every few days for at least 10 days and if no improvment then switch to other antibiotics. I had to take the fish out and drop antibitics on the eye on a semifasciatus which had lost an eye and the other eye had a stubborn popeye.

Time to consider trying a new approach to attempt to save that eye. What meds have you used so far?

Did two days of em erythromycin then couldn't find anymore locally so switched to metroplex+ maracyn 2. What should i try?

Also i have some left over amoxicillin i would imagine that would be a much stronger antibiotic than what you buy for fish. Is it safe and effective on fish and what's the dosage?

Plain old "Maracyn" not "Maracyn 2" is Erythromycin. Antibiotics are very slow acting on fish. I'd give it a full 10-14 days to observe. Remember, antibiotics do not "cure" anything. They just help the fish's immune system to correct problems if possible.

I always try to make sure to run a complete cycle (at least 10 days of Antibiotics) as a non complete cycle might endup causing antibiotic reisitant strains and make it more difficult to treat.
