I'd like to get a microscope to check my phytocultures, but not sure which make/model/or even just magnification I should be looking for. If all that's needed is magnification of a certain level then I can go cheap :)

thanks
Isaac

10-20x its just enough for phyto
Optic , monocular or binocular as you prefer
Anyway from phyto to phyto not upper then 80x
Sorry have to edit thinking to mine
That have obiective 20x but ocular 4x
So at last start from 80x

That sounds very low. I was expecting at least 100x -400x. Is that magnification enough to differentiate between types of phyto?

You could go also up but to make a count or to see rotifer eating them
After is too much
As a says I mistake to the real magnification as mine have an ocular of 4x
That mean my range is 40x to see rotifer when they eat phyto and count them from 100x you don't see any more the rotifer but only the phyto a

hi mc and Isaac 40x 80x you will see rotifers very well cyliates well and algae as nannochloropsis as a point were you
can count them after diluition
but you can see also antagonist of the phyto if present so if the coulture is well or not
120x up you will seee the cells of phyto do not distinguishing any more rotifers and cyliates will be distinguished but not so well
up 180 to 400 you will see all kind of phyto also the more small ones but only that
and no the other organism iteresting for a colture
if it could help you

Amscope has too many models that look the same to me.....how does anyone shop there? LOL

I've found like 10 scopes with the same (as far as I can tell) features as the one I linked....all different prices.
