ultra crocea clam. Normal or abnormal?

New to clams, my first just arrived a couple hours ago. It opens and closes if anything passes over it, but not sure if this hole is normal. I've seen where some say it's normal and others say it's not. Where's the line drawn for normal or danger?

Hi. It’s photo responsive but the overall gape is concerning to me. Crocea are also a boring clam and do best higher in the rockwork. How’s the byssal thread? Did u check for pyrams?

A couple hours? Just leave it for few days. Don’t mess with it if possible. Looks normal for a new arrival.

I agree with crocea being placed on rock work. A crocea clam is best on a large, solid rock (they do not like living on sand or rubble). Once it attaches firmly by its byssal threads, do not ever try to tear it off–unless you actually mean to kill it. If you wish to move an attached specimen, you will need to move the entire rock.

What lights are you running? Assuming the lighting is extremely powerful, they are best placed closer to the bottom of the tank where their vibrant colors are most easily seen.

Also, it's only been in the tank a few hours. As suggested, leave it be for a bit so it can acclimate to its new environment.

I'm running 2 Radion G5 blues. Moved it about mid way up on the rock work this morning. Looks good as far as I can tell. I've never had a clam and not familiiar with their behavior. Just wanted to make sure it was normal.
