Yes, it is most often seen in wild caught clownfish of certain species (maroons, percula and occelaris most commonly) or captive raised clowns that have been held with wild caught ones. However, this is not so much that fish are infected in the wild, but that mishandling during the supply chain brings out the disease. Back in the 60’s through the mid 70’s, we didn’t see it much, but by the 1980’s we stopped buying wild caught occelaris from Indonesia because they were all dying. It’s gotten a bit better since then.

I just got done with a battle with Brook. I believe it came in on an Achilles or Quoyi parrotfish. I had clowns but they were captive bred. That was one of the worst diseases I ever dealt with. I felt horrible.

Based on your post I will not be buying wild clowns for sure
