I have a 20 gallon long that has been up and running for just over two months. I started with dry rock, live sand, then established filter media and water from a friends tank.
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates~2.5
Recently there has been an algae growth in the tank. I was wondering if it could be identified. I want to make sure it is not harmful and if it is, then I want to take care of it ASAP.

Diatom bloom .Part of tank uglies...IMO there’s no point of removing because it’s going to come right back. I would let the tank take its course

Thank you very much. Would it be best to leave the lights off for a few days?

Just run your tank as normal. I would leave lights on where you want them. Probably will get much worse before it gets better.
