Oh… I guess I have not seen the Straton X, and was thinking it was the Stratton pro, which I thought went for close to 2k.

The Stratton x isn’t bad price wise.

Yeah, the Straton pro is up there, but I think too large for this setup.

Just read through your thread, tank looks great. You have any updates on it?

Yeah… I need to make an updated post. I will make one soon as soon as my new sump comes in and it’s in place. The display itself has been stable and looking good for a few months now. Corals are slowly maturing.

MP40s, Reefmat, Reefwave, Skimmer, Varios and rock have all arrived.

Received a call from the freight company today, and the tank will be dropped off tomorrow.

A buddy of mine is taking down a couple systems, so I’ll have a bunch of excess equipments and a couple tanks to get rid of soon.

Thinking of using the 25w aquaUV he has and plumbing into the return line. Will the Varios 4 be enough, or should I switch it to the Vectra S2?

Exciting times!

The varios, if you already have it, should be enough. It’s rated 1040 gph. But If you had the S2 on hand, then I’d probably use it as it has a higher gph rating (1400).

Personally, I like to go bigger and then run it at a lower setting vs a smaller pump and running it at 90-100% all the time.

Either should work for you though. So if you are running with the Hydros, then I think the varios will play nicer with that ecosystem.

Yeah, we are very excited over here!

The equipment I’ll be picking up from my buddy has a couple S2 and an M2 Vectra, but think the M2 is too big for the return pump area.

I think you’re right on larger pump, running at a lower speed.

Really thinking about picking up an apex head unit and trident for testing. I’ll keep the Hydros to control everything, since I already have it, but the trident being there to test, just sounds like a better idea to me. What do you think?

I couldn’t imagine not having my trident. I keep waiting for a better alternative, but so far nothing has come along, so the trident is hard to beat.

Im not so worried about MG, but I really like having my alk and ca tested daily.

If I could find a better alternative for automated Ca testing, I’d seriously consider going with the Aquawiz for Alk monitoring since it requires no reagent and has received a lot of positive reviews.

The Aquawiz does look good, but the build quality throws me off a little bit. Still some thinking to do with this one.

I’ll throw up some pics tomorrow once I get the tank

Following.

I’m currently setting up a UNS R75 as well. I’m waiting for all of my supply for rockscape and also water and all. I’ll be upgrading from a 20G IM. Here’s the equipment that I have so far for it. Thinking of SPS dominant mixed reef tank.

Wavemaker: 3 x Nero 3 (From my old system)
Pump: Vectra S2 Return pump
Skimmer: Ultra Reef Borei UKB-120
UV Sterilzer: Aqua Ultraviolet 25W
Heater: IM AUQA 200W Helio Heater
Light: Radion XR30 (Possibly add my AI blades from the old system)
Filter: ND N-clear M Fleece roller filter

Solid equipment list. I’ve got the same UV but after looking at it, and the room in the stand, not sure if the 25w is too big to mount and have it still look clean….Still playing with it.

I’ve got the N Clear on my nano currently, it’s solid. Didn’t know their M size fits the R75 so I went with the Reefmat. Have you tried the fitting? How does it look?

I’m currently going through all the equipment I ended from my the office tanks that were recently broken down, but i should be getting ready to start mounting equipment, cementing my aquascape, and getting the tank wet.

Thinking about ordering 5lbs of sand and 5lbs of live rock from tampabay, and the Algae barn ultimate cycle pack. Anyone have any experience with the Algae barn pack?

I’ve only for one tank left to break down, but not wanting to transfer anything over, other than the fish, so I’m going to have to get this cycled first!

You think so? I just ordered the UV last week so I didn’t really checked yet.

I have it on the Nano too. Yes, it’s plug and play. If anything you just need to get from ND the cover for the other filter sock slot. I wanted to run 2 but with the flow silencer or even without not sure how the flow will be. Since the flow will the directly hit the roller mat.

I will be getting the Pico kit from tampabay. Also, I will be using Dr. Tim’s fishless cycle and Fritz turbostart 900. Possibly add Microbacter7 towards the end for biodiversity. I haven’t tried anything from Algaebarn unfortunately.

Same. I will transfer week by week after cycle ends. I’m excited. Let’s connect and get updates

I’m going to dry fit everything this weekend, and see how the UV looks.

You getting wet this weekend?

Shoot some pics of the roller if you get a chance…I’ll get the reefmat installs and start adding photos.

The Straton X arrived today, so I’ve got everything but sand.

Been so busy I haven’t had chance to open all the boxes that came with the tank.

I’ll have some time this weekend though, so time to get things going!

Any updates?

Actually I already run the plumbing and also quick RODI rinse and leak check. I got some more supplies coming in. I still need to work on my rockscape. I’ll be going mixed but SPS dominant tank as well. Unfortunately, I won’t start working this project til Monday, working on the weekend.

Still debating on whether to get the ND Filter Roller vs Reef Factory Roller Filter S. I purchase a silencer on Buceplants that can be connected to the Reef Factory. Lol tank is a bit loud or I’m just used to my Nano Tanks.

Not much of an update, sadly.

Work, kiddos, life just got busy for me.

I’ve got the tank in the location I want it, and switch up the below equipment -

Skimmer is now the Deltec 400i - Went with this because it’s very quiet, known to be a solid brand, and reliable. It does mean I have to cut the cover for the PVC lid on the UNS, but guessing this should cut pretty easy.

Return is now the Vectra S2 - Decided this over the Varios solely because it has a little larger GPH. I’ve order a couple plumbing parts to allow it to go from 3/4” to 25mm for the return plumbing.

Thinking of making the hole in the return section cover a little larger so I can route cables through without any issues.

Ended up with all my office tanks and equipment in my garage, so going to spend the weekend cleaning it up, deciding what to keep, and then getting all the equipment setup and cable managed.

Maybe next weekend I’ll be able to get her wet.

Nothing good happens fast in this hobby, but man, I thought that was only supposed to apply when the tanks wet 🤣

Life still busy with kiddos sports, work and well, just life lol.

Finally making a little progress though. Got a few pieces mounted, decided I’m running the 2 MP40s on the wall and did my scape so it should work out. Sand is special grade, so hoping I don’t have a sand storm.

Cut the skimmer section cover to allow the Deltec to fit, which was surprising easy to do.

Nyos USA shipped out the updated mount for the Straton, so that should be here in the next couple days.

I have a few items coming tomorrow, white cable sleeves, cable clips etc, and then I should be ready to get this thing wet.

Breaking out sometime this weekend to get everything mounted, and cable management done. Looking to have this look clean, but also not stop me removing pieces to clean, when needed.

I’ll get some better photos taken, but here are a couple iPhone pics.

Question for folks.

Ordered the R75 but not debating my lights.

I have 2 XR15s I use but I was talking to top lids and they said the RMS is too big to have them both on the outside of the overflow box. 2 questions

1. Did anyone here mount 2 lights on their R75?
2. What is the size of the overflow box? I’m trying to see how much space there is between the box and the edge of the tank.

I also have the option of the Hydra 32 (have two actually) but I’m kind of thinking of tossing rhe idea idea of two lights.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t use the 2 XR15s, but if you were going to, you could use them in the sides and get the RMS rail.

I’ll measure tomorrow and shoot you the dimensions of it. I don’t think having two mounts would work because of the overflow.

I went with the Straton X, Mowgli went with an XR30, I believe.

I would sell the XR15s and go a different route, Straton, XR30, Reefi, Meridian etc

No point spending a few grand on the tank and then not having the setup you want or something that you might need to upgrade later on.

Do it right, or do it twice. Buy once, cry once.
