Upvotes? Oh my!

I've been camping this week, so I may have missed some announcements, but I see there's now an option to "Upvote" a post? How do these work?

Upvotes only work on threads that are marked as questions. The answers then can be upvoted and the most upvoted one is marked as the answer or the op of the thread can choose which post is the answer
