Has dosing Acropower ever caused cyano for you? I want to give it a try but don't want to deal with cyano.

Brad,
I followed your 110 build on RC, and loved your 250 build on RC as well. I recently joined R2R and found your ADA Trio build. Just finished reading all 11 pages...

Just like your previous two builds, (and I'm sure with your nano as well), your attention to detail is amazing and awe inspiring. To paraphrase another poster, your builds are very artistic in nature and are truly beautiful. You build systems that are breath taking and one could easily spend hours in front.

I always felt like a parrot or a robot on your last thread because all I could say was "wow" or "looks stunning". But it was true...

I love the LED backlight you've incorporated into this build and I love the 3 three separate but connected (visually and systemically) aquariums. With my last build I've been working hard and maintaining a form of biotope, to the extent of all critters in the tank (fish, corals, and inverts) from the same general region. I think doing a build like you have with an Indo Pacific/Australian , Caribbean, and Indian Ocean/Red Sea would be neat as well. It may be something I consider in the future.

What are you feeding the Goni's and how often? I've been interested in them for awhile but have always been afraid to try them. How is the Waspfish? I've been looking, but cant find it in your pictures.

Please keep up the stunning work and posting beautiful pictures.

I can't say that acropower has ever caused cyano in my tanks. That's not to say I've never had it because I have. My opinion on cyano which was formed from reading the forums is that is caused when we have a bacterial imbalance in our aquariums. In other words, the cyano bacteria starts to outnumber the beneficial bacteria and thus out competes it. I've found that dosing beneficial bacteria knocks this down. Better yet, dose daily amounts of bacteria and prevent cyano from even starting. This is just my opinions, which there are many others out there.

Maxx - Thanks so much for your very, very kind words. I take pride in my attention to detail so when someone takes note of it, it means a great deal to me.
I also appreciate the artistic comment. By profession, I work in an environment that does not promote creativity so I use wood working, photography and reefing in an attempt to fill that.
I have never thought about separating the tanks by region. I actually don't know the corals/fish well enough to know where they come from. I have to admit though, you have me thinking about it.
I don't feed the Goni's anything specific. I feed a mix of frozen foods which include LRS and Cyclopeeze a couple times a day. You can definitely see them closing down on food when it goes in for the fish.
The Waspfish is... up to this point a major disappointment. It's just a cool looking fish but it stays under the same rock during the day and comes out after the lights go out (hence no photo). I've never seen it eat, yet it remains healthy. I'm hopeful that over time, it will learn that there is little to no risk of being out.
Again, thanks for the view, comments and thought provoking questions.

What do you dose? (Microbacter I assume?)

Do you dose bacteria on this trio?

I am dosing MB7 daily. I've used a few different bacterias over the years and none seem to work better than the other. With MB7 so readily available and inexpensive, I'm using it.

One page back on post #200 he goes over what he is dosing, microbacter is one of them.
Appreciate you pointing him in the direction of that post. It's also good to know that someone reads. :)

Does dosing microbacter do the same as carbon dosing?

No. The two work best in tandem with one another. The carbon source (bio pellets in my case) give the bacteria (MB7 in my case) something to consume and thus become larger and more beneficial bacteria. The bacteria then consumes nitrates/phosphates before getting skimmed out of the tank via the skimmer. You can add bacteria without adding a carbon source and get a benefit, the carbon source just increases the efficiency of the bacteria. As I state with most of my methods, these are only my opinions. I've tried many different nutrient export modes over the years and seem to always come back to bio pellets and bacteria. It's easy, low maintenance and effective for me. There are a lot of great ways to keep a beautiful reef tank, the best advice I was given is to pick a method and go with it. Mixing methods often creates issues for people.

Thanks for the views and comments. I just did a search for your tank thread but could not find it. Perhaps you could PM me over the link so I can have a look.
As for the full room shot, you are right, me in that photo posing would put that over the top. I think I already have outfit BTW.

Thanks for answering on the microbacter. I was never sure as the bottle says add more for higher nutrients, so I just always assumed it was a form of carbon dosing.

Such great shots. I've been living vicariously through this thread but my tank is finally scheduled for delivery Friday. I hope my build turns out even 50% as well as this one!
