Uronema?

Received 5 Bimac anthias today from a Humblefish approved QT vendor. 1 died shortly after being introduced and had a red splotch on its side. I suspect Uronema but I’m hopeful it’s bacterial or shipping related and I didn’t just introduce uronema to my tank.

None of the other anthias show visible signs of issues. Thoughts?

based on shape and location does appear to be such. Best treatment was Quick Cure but option is Ruby rally Pro starting with a 60 minute bath. . Chloroquine Phosphate will also work but must be used precisely. Uronema is an obligate parasite, and can thrive on bacteria, uneaten food, and waste so besides treatment also maintain a clean tank removing waste daily and assure specific gravity has not dropped.
Once in QT tank, treat and assure that the parasites have been eliminated.

This does look to be the correct color, more typically, Uronema lesions are linear, but sometimes they are rounder like this.

Internal Uronema isn’t super contagious (if at all) but despite what you might read, it isn’t treatable using water baths - the parasites are inside the fish.

Internal Uronema usually shows up in freshly imported fish. Do you know how long their quarantine period was? In longer periods, the Uronema usually shows up there instead of after the fish is released from quarantine.

I should add that this was a delayed UPS shipment with fish in transit for 48 hours so quite stressful and low on oxygen in the bags.

Most of them will do 14 days as they dont tend to tie up fish for lengthy period but instead move them through the chain. Ammonia burn is a possibility but you will know which it is within 48 hours.

So - thus lesion is linear, like Uronema typically is. However, it is very faint and not red. That may be because the lesion is still developing, but it could indicate that this isn’t Uronema.

You note it usually shows up in freshly imported fish, so assuming at least 21 days of QT (and I think they had these fish cleared through QT for some time), I'm hoping that points against it being Uronema.

Not good news to report... 1 anthias down today. Shown in the attached pic. Note the red sore by pectoral fin with scale loss, though not with the linear pattern.

Lesion on the anthias I showed yesterday has developed a red tinge around it (2nd pic). Fish is still eating normally but hides more than the others.
