Hi folks,

I would like to replace my sand. Have an opened almost full CaribSea live sand back, which is sitting since a year in the basement. Would that be safe to use?

Thanks!

The beneficial bacteria may be dead but I would just rinse it under some rodi well and call it a day. A fresh bag might be better but if rinsed I see no issues. Best of luck :)

I'm in a similar situation, with a partially used bag sitting in the corner for a couple of months. Since there is still water in there, and the bag has been partially sealed, gonna go for it and use soon.

I would fully rinse it anyway to be safe. Most "live" sand will have a bit of die off. You can reduce this by just rinsing it well before use, even an unopened bag should be fully rinsed.
