Used equipment you won’t buy

I understand not wanting to use some pieces of used gear, but man this kind of talk can't be great for the environment... perfectly good equipment getting thrown away because no one wants it is so wasteful :/

Won’t buy a used UV, know someone who did, guy said he’d just put a new Lamp in it. Seal failed, wiping out half his tank. The Bulb? Just a regular Fluorescent!

I'm all for buying used equipment if it is cheaper, and I know it has been taken care of and isn't super old or beat up, haha. If I can save money on something that is slightly used? I'll do it

Used heaters or thermostats. Those have short enough lifespans as it is, and are most likely to malfunction of all the gear we use. Not to mention they have the biggest consequences if the do fail…

Most people don’t realize heaters only have a six month warranty.

If you thoroughly clean/bleach/launder filter socks they can be perfectly fine used. Again, it really depends on how well they're been cleaned previously and whether they still have some useful life left in them.

true but they degrade over time and they’re so cheap that to me it just doesn’t make sense to buy them used.

A lot of things have already been mentioned, but another thing I'll add to the list is used stands made of pressboard that are starting to swell. Also tanks that need to be repaired.

Even new press board stands are a big risk
