My LFS has this used nero 5 for sale for 115$. The issue is that it starts spinning for a turn then stops, then starts, again and again. Its like its stalling.

Does anyone know if this is a common issue, and if it is easy to fix? I would love to score a cheap nero pump. How is AI custommer service with second hand equipment?

Thanks!

You can try taking it apart and cleaning it with citric acid. It may have some dried gunk built up on the impeller or shaft.

I will definetly try that if I end up picking it up. I was wondering if that was concerning or a ''common issue'' that needs a warranty claim.

I have found with all the Nero’s you need to take apart and take out the ceramic doughnut between the spindle and housing and clean real well, most times it’s got calcium buildup that keeps it from smoothly rotating and that will cause it to go into protect or stop spinning.

I have a Nero 3 in for service through AI now because of a similar issue. Sounds like there may be a reliability issue here.

Not sure which ceramic doughnut you are reffering to but how would I go about taking it out?

When you remove the blades from the pump there is a ceramic doughnut inside the ceramic housing. It is what locks into the pump so it can turn it. When I get home I can send you a pic.

Please do, that would be appreciated! Also how do you remove it without breaking anything?

Well I think I got screwed, the wire was hanging by a thread and broke off. I don't see how I can repair this without hacking into the motor assembly.
