Used Tank Stand

Hi everyone!

I recently got a tank stand with a 15 gallon tank on marketplace, and am a bit concerned about the long term viability of it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

It's a small tank. The issues you are showing are cosmetic, not structural.

I am typically a hard "NO" on used equipment.

15 gallon tank with rocks and sand, let's just say it's about 150 pounds filled and running.

My completely non-scientific test for this situation:

Find a 200 pound friend and have them put their body weight on the stand. They should be able to "feel" if the stand is struggling and about to give, or holding solid.

If you decide this stand isn't trustworthy, for a tank like that you can use a small end table, night stand or dresser. These can be found inexpensively at your local thrift store, Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, etc. I'd apply the same test to see if it's trustworthy for your tank.

I’m really only a hard no on heaters, personally. I’ve had great luck with getting tanks at a good discount that only need some cleaning.

I’ll just reinforce the stand and put a leveling mat/feet underneath.

Don’t laugh but I don’t know anyone 200lbs haha

I’m 140 myself, so I sat on it and wiggled a bit. I didn’t feel scared for my life. There is a bit of wiggling so I’ll inspect all the connections and hardware in the inside, and may look into a leveling mat/feet.

Sadly the goodwills and fb marketplace here suck for any furniture like that! I spent months looking for a decorative stand for a 20L and just said **** it and went on Amazon.

Again, you're not limited to an aquarium stand, a solid nightstand or small end table is often just fine for a 15 gallon, costs next to nothing (sometimes free) and may even come with draws and doors for your gear.

I’ll be on the lookout! Be a good excuse to get out to some estate sales/thrift stores as well.

long as I can fit an ato reservoir underneath, and will hold the tank safely for at least a year, I do not care lol

I think you’ll be fine. As others have said, looks like strictly cosmetic issues. Small tank.
