Using a saltwater led fixture for house plants?

Has anyone used any type of saltwater led fixture for house plants?
My daughter wants to setup some window box plants and asked me if I had any lights she could use.
I have a old Radion XR30 gen 1 upgraded to a gen 3 light laying around.
Anyone ever use a led fixture for plants?

Any suggestions?

Most plants need the other end of the spectrum. But generally should be enough light coming in the window.

Since Radions are controllable and you can control the spectrum, it's not that big of a stretch.
I asked this in a FB group and several have said they do it.

Find the settings for doing something close to 6500k and it should do well.

Oh I never said it wouldn’t work. Just would have to flip settings to the other end. More red than blue. But yeah I’ve done it. I keep my plants in three season room. Winter they go in basement. I’m just saying for the average houseplant you likely wouldn’t need the lights.

Which gen 3? Actually it make little difference.
There are some morphological difference you may see w/ heavy blue light vs either daylight or warmer lighting.

Not sure what plants she is going to be keeping. I just said house plants as a general term.
Or even why she wants to do this with spring coming on.

You can grow plants under pretty much any light. It’s more what the spectrum will do better for them. That’s why when your growing say cannabis for instance you will change your spectrum by what growth stage you are at.

You think lighting is complicated in reefing it’s almost the same complicated in growing. Lol

Green plants have essentially the same pigment sets (Chl A & B + carotenoids) as green algae.
There might be some important differences in physiological responses to light spectra between the two groups, but if you are just aiming to grow plants, a light that grows chaeto, caulerpa & derbesia ought to grow green plants too.

Bottom line - it will be fine, but not ideal if. The Chronic is quite common here and you can get better results with a dedicated plant grow light that is more specialized, but if that box is going to be anywhere near a window, then the window light will do most of what the plants need anyway.

You can burn really sensitive plants (like orchids) if you do not diffuse LEDs or have them too close. Be careful if you plants cannot be in "full sun" - not rocket science, just be careful. I like me some orchids and indirect light is still best for them. This is not a LED thing... it is an orchid thing.

Since this was only about the usefulness of my gen 3 Radion that was just a backup of a backup and it refusing to turn on this morning despite multiple attempts at cpr on it, I think this part of my daughters project is dead.
She is on her own on this one.

I can’t tell you about spectrums and which light is better or worse. But I can say that this is my 3 year old poinsettia that sits next to my tank. And I do not live where they grow naturally.
