Bacteria and parasite control. I have a shark tank. The main question here is going to be what do you want it for. If for algae and bacteria removal you need less than if you want parasite control. In general I would say for algae something small like a 25 watt will work well but if you want parasite control then likely a 40-50 watt unit.
There are more factors that go into UV size besides wattage like contact time, body size and flow rate.
If you let us know what your goals are then we may be able to provide a more specific recommendation.
Per hour youre saying right?55 watt would be perfect but you can get away with a 36watt. when you get into the 36 +wattage, those suckers are big so just a heads up.
I run mine 1 x my tank volume and it works fine. I believe 1 to 1.5 x's the DT volume is recommended.
I would check out BRS's site for sizing. I got one of those used and it seems to work. I have no experience with any other brands. Keep in mind if you install one you need to be able to change the bulb and be able to take out the inner housing for cleaning which requires you to be able to drain it.
Okay, so I should get a water pump for 220 gph then?55 watt would be perfect but you can get away with a 36watt. when you get into the 36 +wattage, those suckers are big so just a heads up.

i used mine to combat Dinos. Now that they are gone I decided to keep it online.
my water has never been clearer and critters are all happy.

220 gallons 20-21 inches, I have a ton of DO in my tank, I know that sharks need a ton. Not as professional as a reef tank. How big is your tank? What is the pump volume you want to use? How large will the sharks get?
The big guys at San Diego SeaWorld used to inject ozone into the tank directly to boost the oxygen levels for the sharks.

You might actually benefit from a trickle filter to keep the oxygen level higher and process the fish waste faster. Ozone and a large skimmer would be a benefit as well.220 gallons 20-21 inches, I have a ton of DO in my tank, I know that sharks need a ton. Not as professional as a reef tank.
I have a large skimmer, open top sump, air pump, a ton of surface agitation, should I go on?You might actually benefit from a trickle filter to keep the oxygen level higher abd process the fish waste faster. Ozone and a large skimmer would be a benefit as well.
I also keep water temp at 72You might actually benefit from a trickle filter to keep the oxygen level higher abd process the fish waste faster. Ozone and a large skimmer would be a benefit as well.
Ozone is an incredible oxidizer so you need to be careful. I've see it disintegrate thingsYou might actually benefit from a trickle filter to keep the oxygen level higher abd process the fish waste faster. Ozone and a large skimmer would be a benefit as well.
What is it used for? Just higher levels of DO?Ozone is an incredible oxidizer so you need to be careful. I've see it disintegrate things
No. Oxygen is what's left over after the ozone has come in contact with organics in the water. If you just want oxygen there are better ways. What is it used for? Just higher levels of DO?
